Lets have some fun!!!!! - What would your Lady Techster program look like?

This is meant to be fun so please lets keep it fun and lets not go down any roads of the current coaching staff and say what they are doing right or wrong this is about your program what would it look like if you were the coach.

You have just been named the head coach of the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters what would your program look like.

We all have our own ideas for how we think it should be run, lets just have fun with this and you never know it could be beneficial to those of us that are actually coaches to get some insight from others as to what their program would look like.

Re: Lets have some fun!!!!! - What would your Lady Techster program look like?

    FINE, I will start.

    I would do the following
    1. Contact Leon Barmore and get him to help rally the troops that might have stepped away from the program. I would ask him to help out as much as he was willing and offer him to come back in whatever capacity I could get him back. Leon main role on the floor would be working with the post players. He is an awesome post coach.

    2. As soon as I hung up the phone with Leon. I would be calling Nell Fortner and asking her to please come back and work with me. I would use whatever recruiting tactics I needed to get her back because, while I am a really good recruiter, she is a for USA National Coach and she just carries so much style and grace every time she walks into a facility.

3.I then would get her input on who we should call next, I would ask her if she wanted to call Amber Obaze or if she wanted me to make that call. We need a coach that is fresh and that can relate to the kids that we are bringing in. Amber just won a state title and she is happy but still hungry for more. Amber would also be a great guards coach that can make things go for you every time she steps on the floor.

    4. I get three coaches and that final full time coach would be someone that I know would do all the little things well and would be a team player all the way. I want someone that when she walks in a building she gets the respect she deserves and someone that is not only relevant to the game but current in the game. I would reach out to Cheryl Ford. I would work around the WNBA aspect so that it was a win - win for us all.

I would essentially surround myself with people that were better at what they do than I am because it is true you win with people and it really does take a secure person to surround themselves with individuals that know more than you know.

Come on peeps have some fun and lets play. We are being given the chance to blow up the program and see what your program would look like.

I would reach out to Coach Barmore and ask him to consult on all aspects of the program. As far as Coaches, Nell Fortner (Barmore's defensive coordinator ), Amber Obaze, Monica Maxwell, Kendra Neal would be on my short list. I might also contact Danielle Whitehurst and find out what she is doing (one of the best defensive players to wear the uniform). I would reach out to High School Coaches in Shreveport, Monroe, Arkansas, Mississippi, Florida for the Director of Basketball Operations position.

(This is me not as a headcoach)

    I would do the following...
    1. Brooke/Scott Stoer co-headcoach
    2. Amber Obaze assistant coach
    3. No more black uniforms
    4. Contact Barmore for consulting job
    5. Schedule Baylor and Tennessee

Re: Lets have some fun!!!!! - What would your Lady Techster program look like?

I would begin to plan my work and work my plan.
My coaches would be in the office one day per week and out on the road five days in every gym they could find that had girls gathered. We would have a presence at every holiday, State and AAU tournament that we could find in the Ark/La/Tx/Ms/Al/TN/FL and Ok.
The holidays would be filled with on the road, I would leave Leon at home with the girls as much as possible for practice and me and my staff would be on the road recruiting.
I would be very dialed in for the first month of recruiting and we would hold weekly meetings to rate the prospects.
I would be responsible to having direct contact according to NCAA compliance on the top 10 prospects and then we would filter it out to the other coaches.
As the level of interest grows then those players may come onto my list and I have more direct contact.
After the first month I would take a more direct approach to the recruits that we wanted to target on and start working that angle and allow my coaches to coordinate those meetings so that I could have the schedule needed to be most efficient.

The recruiting coordinator would be vital to the program but not to the on the floor coaching, that position would be visible but not travel with the team or always be at ball games.
That is in my opinion the most important job of a program and it calls for 90% road and only 10% in the office.

I don't have time to write a long one, but might tomorrow. I will say that I would work harder than anyone could imagine to land a top 10 player and build around that. Once you get that first one, others will follow as they see what you are building. The first one is the most difficult and we haven't had one in a while.

AWESOME PLAN!! I have been so worried over how much (or little) of this is being done in our WBB program. And we should have just dynamite summer camps, with former Techsters. I know at least one year it was cancelled. Promote the heck out of it, make it "the place to go." Some of our competitors, like MTSU, have really good ones. All this plays into your "being in every gym" and in your other post above on building relationships with coaches. And these are why I worry about Spoon being in New York. Who is building and protecting the FOUNDATION? Anyone? That is so scairy it makes my stomach tumble.

I disagree but only because I know it can be done, I did it on a budget of $2,500 for a year. That meant having a school car and getting to know the road really well. I did that at a NAIA school so I know it can be done.
I recruited Missouri, Illinois, Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma.
You have to be committed to getting done what needs to get done.
I would play some money games if need too just so that I could increase my recruiting budget.

i agree with that but not many quality coaches that have options are willing to do that when other schools allow them to fly

I agree with you but that is why you have to find coaches that not only want a job but want the challenge.
Everybody wants a job but not everyone is built for that challenge.
We need coaches that are will to do Whatever it takes.
