Holtz just confirmed on the coaches show what I suspected all along: young isn't injured, he got pulled.
Stay with Higgins! Young had his chance!
Stick with Higgins.
You are full of crap. I personally watched 3 Tech trainers looking at Young's ribs coming out of halftime of the Tulane game. Each time Young threw warmups on the sidelines he winced very noticeably in pain. Here are Holtz's comment from the press conference. He has decided to go with Higgins, but Young was definitely injured and to post otherwise is just a lie.
On if Ryan Higgins locked down the starting job or with Scotty coming back, if there be a battle:
“We are going to have to look at it this week, but certainly Ryan has put himself in there. Scotty is coming back off his rib injury. Was able to play and practice a little bit on Tuesday and just a little bit more on Wednesday, but we just felt like Ryan had a good week and we needed to go with him. There was no reason to risk that. We will look at that this week and we will make that decision. Right now, Ryan has definitely put himself in the ball game and put himself in that driver’s seat with the way that he played last week.”
Try again.
Holtz also said he likes to make his QB decision as early as Tuesday if possible. Young was cleared to play on Saturday, but he certainly was nowhere near ready last Tuesday. Higgins got the practice work with the #1s with Young out early last week, and he didn't do anything to cause the decision to be reconsidered either before or during the game (goalline fumble excluded).
Young got Pipped.
Worked out well for the Yankees.
Scotty Young: 46-of-87, 452 yards 2 TD (10 quarters of play)
Ryan Higgins: 42-of-71, 346 yards 2 TD (6 quarters of play)
* Ryan has almost matched Scotty's production in 4 quarters less game time. Stick with Higgins until he loses the job.
Heard Holtz say on the radio this morning. "It is going to be hard to unseat Higgins with the improvement he showed and the way he played Saturday." OR something real close to that so Higgins is going to be the starter this week just reading between the lines. Like I said I have no problem with it but if he has a couple of turnovers and we continue to struggle to score points I would give Young one more shot to sink or swim.
O-line getting better, BUT -- Higgins is the guy now. Scotty is pure passer and needs protection , Higgins adds running threat and like the new generation of NFL qbs, you have to make D-adjustments. Coach has always said he will give you WOWs ( wow that was awesome, wow that was horrible) we got both WOWs on the scamper / fumble. Almost td turns to game swinger. Do we committ to Scotty with weak O-line and maybe win a game or 2 more or committ to the future and get Higgins experience. Coach has made that decision, he danced around it on Fletch today but it will be Higgins now. Will be tough for a lot of folks on BBB but the entire team is getting better and we are investing in the future of Tech football. I expect the product to get better every week and I tend to be more patient in my older years.
oops, forgot the 2 ints, 3 fumble --2 on 1 yrs line ( 1 led to first and goal and other gave them ball on 20 yds line.) Statistics like lamp pole to a drunk, more for support than illumination. Scotty did what coaches game planned. Higgins is quaterback of future. He is right qb because our O-line is weak and his mobility will slow d a step or 2. With solid line and right system Scotty would be right guy-- just not the guy for where were are right now. Forgetting his 5 turnovers trumps the above stats and overlooks all the dropped balls ( inclusing walkin td vs Tulane). Come on--you can do better than that!!
4 quarters = 4 turnovers. 1 per quarter vs none. This is meant as defence of Scotty , not rap on other qb. Scotty had too many dropped passes, including tds and no protection ( or game plan that I liked). He does not have the line, receivers or footspeed that would work . Higgins has great running skills and they are using TJ and Hunter more. I think the future is bright for Higgins and experience will get him ready. I posted this 10 minutes before game
Gotta go with HIGGINS first. Saturday sealed that.
There was a GREAT ENERGY and excitement in our team and fans at Kansas. A couple of BIG early defensive stops...all of sudden WE WERE CONSISTENTLY MOVING THE BALL, it was like "Whoa, where did this come from, we look solid!!" The win eluded us, but I think those of us there really palpably saw the team develop and gel. Really a privilege to have been there and see us compete and improve so much. What a treat it was Saturday at Kansas to meet/sit with Houston Techsan, the Higgins family (Dad, granddad, uncle) and to meet the Danielson family and so many of their friends at their tailgate, some new Shreveport friends too. NEARLY EVERYONE I TALKED TO WILL BE AT THE ARMY GAME.
GO BULLDOGS!!!!! BEAT ARMY!!!
