UTEP is ranked 121 (only two teams worse) at pass defense and 118 in rush defense (pretty bad too) . . . we rush 71% of our plays.

Why not take advantage of the GIFT of incredibly crappy pass defense over the last two games and start building our passing game while we can? These last two games were huge opportunities to script a passing extravaganza for Higgins et al. Running Dixon over and over again was effective, but it seemed like a pretty lazy way out for the coaching staff.

P.S. - Start taking the ball when you win the coin toss!!!
. I gotta quit reading these posts-- were you at Army game?? Miserable weather, slippery ball- dropped passes. Utep, almost 400 yards rushing and we kept them off field. Also, not sure when Higgins hurt ankle. There is significant advantage to taking ball to start second half. Nothing like knowing you can have last possession of half and start second half with ball. Most coaches want ball to start second half

The better his next job is, the better we have been. Start hoping you are wrong.

Some players practice well-- others perform well in games. Takes time for qb and receivers to develop timing. You can seldom just stick a player in overnight at receiver , we saw the Evangel player yesterday. He made great catch

Yea I was at the Army game; it wasn't pouring while they were playing.

Seems like every opponent we have given the ball to first scores on the first possession and we go three and out after the half. I know for sure that happened at UTEP. Take the ball whenever you can get it!

Sooner or later we are going to run into another team that CAN stop our run. Sure would be nice to have a balanced passing attack when that happens.

I am pretty sure this was misstated, but I was struck by the comments from the announcers about how Holtz said he came in with the Tech fans having high expectations after last year, and that he had to change the culture at Tech. I thought that was so strange.

THIS!! This is exactly why I think Holtz is so incompetent. If he really knew anything, he'd know the culture has already been changed!! WE WON A CHAMPIONSHIP 2 YEARS AGO!!!! Have people on this board had short term memory loss?? We have a WINNING PROGRAM!! We should not lose to Army, Tulane, or Kansas. And that is personally why I want Holtz gone. The fact that he thinks he has to come here and "change the culture" of this program is a slap in the face to our former players and fan base. We have a winning culture, and our current players know the expectations because they have already been set! I think Holtz cultivates a culture of LOSING because he tries to set the bar low by continuously talking about what all this team "lost" and how we are "young and inexperienced". Are you kidding me?!? Be a freaking coach and LEAD!! Quit making excuses and WIN!! Those are the expectations.

Yeah, two talking guys trying to fill dead air time...they were stating their own condescending thoughts and attributing them to Holtz. I can't find that quote form Holtz, but did find one that goes against what they said...

"That's been talked about," Holtz said of the 2011 season. "Walking into a program with as much tradition as Louisiana Tech, that has a great fan base, game-day atmosphere, it's been positive to be part of that and draw from that.
"But, it doesn't make it easier to go through what we're going through."

Still, Louisiana Tech knows that could all change quickly.
"We're making better progress," Holtz said. "I want it to be faster paced than it is, but I feel we're moving in the right direction. We're trying to find a game where we can put it all together -- playing as a football team, offense, defense, special teams."

That's ANOTHER great post from you! Preach on, brother. I'm rarely even posting this morning because you're speaking for the BOTH of us on this issue.

    I agree.

Losing a bunch of starters excuse is getting old too. Isn't the whole reason you have depth is for the guys to learn and step up when it's time to. It just so happened that a bunch of them had to step up at the same time. Yeah, did we expect to have the offense of last year? - NO. But did we expect to go out, compete and win some games against bottom of the barrel programs? - YES!.

    We just beat UTEP -

One of the 4 teams Myberg predicted us to beat at the beginning of the year along with Lamar, FIU and UTSA...

So far he is 2 for 2 -

    Nothing to right home about...

Actually, it's rather depressing when you think about it
