LSUS chancellor search officially begins-theshreveporttimes.com
" Louisiana State University-Shreveport has been in the search for a new chancellor for 481 days.
National advertisements for the position started last week, but it will be at least another five months before a replacement for long-time LSUS head Vince Marsala is selected.
That increases the instability of a campus already struggling to find its way amid budget cuts and attempts to grow new programs such as its first doctoral degree. "Meanwhile...

I thought this was interesting as well, from Objective & Benefits page down near Academic Mission:The LSU Board of Supervisors has initiated a re-organization review of the LSU System. As we navigate through this historic change, communication will be a critical element to success. This website is designed to provide comprehensive information about the re-organization process and to be a resource for engaging in the process of re-organization.
They talk about LSUS being part of the new system but the setup they are advocating would have all the regional schools reporting to lsu-br president, I can't see how that would help their school long term as they will be focused on the main schools prosperity.Eventually there will be a single regional accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and there will be national reporting of institutional data on a consolidated basis to improve national rankings.
I wonder what it would look like today if LSUS merged with Tech.
It all makes perfect sense as to why there's a picture floating around with a stuffed TIGER displayed at that LSUS graduation ceremony. The folks that have that "don't take ours away" mindset realize, if LSUS is ever viewed by the general public as being a stand-alone, autonomous institution, it's performance, it's under-delivery to the citizens of SBC will all come to a head and LSUS becomes Louisiana Tech - Shreveport, with Louisiana Tech selective admissions requirements and somebody may not get to attend. BUT...if you can tie LSUS to the mother ship...hey we're REALLY "LSU" just hold classes in Shreveport off of Youree Drive, suddenly you have been able to mobilize the Purple and Yella nation in support of them.
Sad that everything is about POLITICS and in this case "Geaux Tigers" instead of what would be good for Northwest Louisiana...and a Tech/LSUS merger would be exactly the right thing to do.
The "Hey, we're really LSU" mindset is EXACTLY what those folks are seeking. No more guilty feeling about "forgetting" to add the -S when asked where they went to college. No more worrying about someone looking too closely at the degree hanging among the purple/gold decor. Then they will honestly be an LSU Tiger even though they never set foot on the BR campus or in Tiger Stadium.
That's all great...
However, if there is a true "One LSU" the student enrollment criteria will ramp up to that of the BR campus. So, the 250 or so students who'd actually get into BR would remain and the other 3800 would basically go to BPCC. They will be operating a skeleton campus with only a handful of in-person degree offerings and the rest online.
But hey, what a great deal for our friends in S/BC!
Right now, Louisiana Tech needs to focus on making it's Shreveport campus the best it can possibly be. The rest of this stuff will sort itself out.
If this were a private industry, I would sell all of my LSUS stock.
LSUS is a really nice university. Hopefully one day they will welcome a Louisiana Tech/Shreveport merger.
If it is to be LSU BR vs LaTech over this merger, then I dont like our odds. There aren't enough Bulldog supporters in Baton Rouge.
That isn't what this is though. Its a few Shreveport knuckleheads who think that they're LSU BR vs LaTech. LSU BR doesn't care the slightest bit about LSUS (or LSUA or LSUE for that matter). LSU has ambitions of its own (http://theadvocate.com/home/6039455-...-not-yet-elite), and incorporation of LSUS and friends, will do nothing but hurt those ambitions.
I think LSU is going to cut them loose.
