Instead of a red out this year, we have to go white!

very motivational...
embrace the suck
Often used by NCO's in the military. The term would be used when an individual or a group must complete a task that is pointless, tiring, and/or lame.
NCO: Hey gather up, we need to mow the grass before we are released today.
Soldier: That's bullshit, we had all day to do that.
NCO: Well then just embrace the suck and get it done.
..."the suck" is the routine this goofball S&C coach has given them.
We may be short on a lot of things, but we certainly aren't short on suck.
Time is your friend. Impulse is your enemy. -John Bogle
Embrace the suck, suck it up, man up, quit yer bitchin', etc...
I for one like it and am amazed that some don't, he's not pulling any punches laying the ugly truth in front of them. What some on here claim they're doing when they criticize and BBBitch about every move or decision made by the Admin or Coaches...
I hope it works out that this guy really knows how to develop football players. My only complaint about his tactics is that I would not be putting that stuff out to the public until my results showed where it counts. Either arrogance or stupidity. Neither is a god thing.
We are not military. Neither is our S&C guy. The guy didn't do a good job last year. Did you watch his work? We were out of condition in the first game and in the last game. Also, based on last year and a talk giving by our OLine coach, he is also a loser. Yet, our George Patton wannabe blames the players for our bad OLine.
I don't want to sound like that run-of-the-mill CrossFit douchebag, but overhead jerk is an olympic movement, not powerlifting.
Wasn't he hired around January 2013? 8-9 months is not enough to generate very significant gains in strength and conditioning. We're talking maybe 0.1 seconds off a 40 yard dash, 5-10 seconds off a 400 yard run, 10-20 on a squat, deadlift, bench, or olympic lift, and those are optimal estimates assuming the players are giving 100% effort, are eating well, and sleeping well.
Our S&C's biggest impact in his first months is how he gets each player to work at 100% every day using whatever means necessary.
I agree that this year is where we'll see how good his conditioning program works.

Focus on coaches demeanor and discipline. They are supposed to coach and lead.
Again, we are not military. This is a football team. We are not going to war, we are playing a game. I despise coaching that uses military slogans and comparisons.
You lose cred if you think 8 months isn't long enough to get a team into shape. This team was in better shape when he took them over than when the season ended.
I understand your opposition to the use of military slogans by coaches, and agree mostly. But you don't have to be in the military to be an unrelenting, disciplined, selfless football player or any kind of of person for that matter. That's just being competitive in general.
I didn't say get into shape.
What's the direct metric for "in shape"? Do you mean "football shape"? You can say wins and losses, you can say how often players were injured, you can point out that players subbed out to catch their breath, but there isn't a direct measurement.
Because I'll argue all day about the ability to push/pull 20+ more pounds than you did 2 months prior means you're more "in shape". That's from personal experience as a coach and athlete.
