You know, for a long time I have promised myself I would learn Russian after I somewhat mastered Spanish. . I've struggled with Spanish far more that I thought I would, so the Russian thing still hasn't happened. I may punt and move to French, assuming Spanish ever penetrates this thick skull. For now Google translate will have to do.

When I took Spanish in high school, I found that it came to me easily. As if I already knew many of the words.

When I told my parents that Spanish class was a piece of cake, they revealed that I'd had a nanny when I was very young who spoke only Spanish. I had no memory of the lady, but somehow had retained the conversational Spanish of a toddler.

I may have that advantage in French. We'll see. My ability to read Spanish is really quite good. I understand my clients if I slow them down. I can't consistently seek it, though. It really is quite frustrating. It's the first think I wanted to learn but haven't yet. I'm considering going to Costa Rica and staying a few months.

I find Spanish far more intuitive than Russian, French, or even English. The irregular forms are fewer and farther between.

I'm told that anyone learning Spanish should not learn from a Mexican, as other Spanish speakers perceive the Mexican dialect, particularly northern Mexican, as unsophisticated and "hick"-ish.

Mexico is apparently the Claiborne Parish of the Spanish speaking world.

People who drive the wrong way in the grocery store parking lot.

No, I am not talking about brand new Lincolns or Cadillacs with a pair of knuckles attached to some older person that you wouldn't know was in te vehicle otherwise. I am talking about able bodied/minded people who are too lazy to read a sign.

I was okay with it before this last "energy saving" move. 2nd Sunday in March is too early (tough on turkey hunters).
