Curtis Shaw was appointed Coordinator of Officials for C-USA, Big 12, Ohio Valley, and Southland conferences in 2010. He was a veteran referee. The 4 conferences formed a consortium to share the position. As far as I can tell, the consortium is still in place and Curtis Shaw is the Coordinator of Officials. He is the one who assigns referees.

A veteran ref being fired by a major conference says all I need to know. Looks like the last $EC action he had was three $EC Tournament games in Atlanta in 2010-2011.

Checking ref stats for this year, Brent Dugas and Greg Rennegarbe are two of the three blind mice that worked last night's UTEP at ODU fiasco. Both are in the top 14 in average fouls called per game this year for those working at least 10 games. Rennegarbe worked Tech games at Tulane and at UTSA, while Tech hasn't seen Dugas yet.

9 refs have worked at least 5 conference games so far this year in C-USA. The most active refs have all worked around 50 games or more so far this season. 6 of the 9 refs that have worked the most conference games in C-USA have worked under 35 games total, while the other three have all worked at least 58 (Eades has worked 61 total). That tells me that C-USA is using more "weekender" refs instead of full-time refs for a large number of its conference games. That can't be a good thing.

Tech hasn't seen Dugas in a conference game, but he did ref the exhibition game in Memorial. I don't know that we will see him for a regular season game as his son is a member of our baseball team.

I'd be wary of wearing blue and white striped overhauls to the games if I didn't want to get singled out.

Sim had to cut 5-6 players to trim it to the 35-man opening day roster... Looks like Dugas, Albritton, Parker, Kranz, and O'Connor have been cut... They'll probably get another chance next year if they want to go out again... Looks like Paul Harris has been added to the roster and one more cut has to be made in the next couple days...
