They are friends and, even, recruited together. Karl speaks whatever he feels like saying and has been angry with Tech many times.

Spoon and Karl are basically brother and sister, and Karl has been pissed at Tech's admin since Rupp got fired.

So..... not to change the subject back to basketball or anything, but has any one been following Amber Obaze? Not that she is ready to make the jump yet, but she has been doing good things over at Rayville.
Coach of the year in 2013 and State Champs, made it a couple of games deep in the playoffs this year.

Amber has a much more impressive resume' than Spoon had when she was hired. Anyone that has coached their daughter's playground team has a better coaching resume' than Spoon had. Amber would be a better risk than Spoon was. Amber took a rag-tag bunch and molded them into state champions her first year at Rayville. She lost her entire starting five to graduation, yet she took a bunch of mostly freshmen and took them two deep into the playoffs this year. She knows how to coach. She has already established an impressive record in just a few years of high school coaching. She is paying her dues, and I hope she has aspirations of a career in the college ranks. She is ready to mentor under a successful head coach. She has a husband named Darrell Ford and a baby who happens to have Karl Malone for a granddaddy. I hope our new coach will consider her for an assistant. Perhaps Karl would approve of the hire if it happened.

Interesting! She has been a player and assistant under Christy Kurry(sp?) for years ( Purdue / Texas Tech ). Wasn't Christy an assistant trained by Leon Barmore?

Yeah nothing new about that. Karl angry and pissed off about something. Spoon contributed greatly to the Techster dynasty (which I appreciate) but it was past time for her to go. Good job McClelland.

I wade reluctantly into these fratricidal waters. However, here goes:

There are some solid reasons to prefer a "straight" female coach over a "gay" one. With a lesbian coach there is a strong potential for tension between straight and lesbian players/coaches. Remember the implosion several ago of the really good ULM women's program? And, although many parents and players could care less about the coach's sexual orientation, a significant number of parents and potential recruits would be uncomfortable with a lesbian coach. If you had a daughter what would you prefer for her?
