Re: If you want a thread to die

On June 29, today's date in history:

    • 2007 Apple iPhone Released 29th June, 2007: The first Apple iPhones went on sale in stores for the first time as people lined up and waited outside shops for days. The long anticipated phone featured a touch-screen with no keyboard, wi-fi access, a camera, and the ability to browse the web. Apple stated that they hoped they would take hold a significant portion of the mobile phone market with the immensely popular iPhone. (First person I ever saw use one was DogSince65 checking scores and a Bulldog football game!!) And remember: iPhone, iPad, iPod YES: iBowl, just say NO!!!
    • 1956 Interstate Highway system approved: Federal Aid Highway Act Jun. 29th 1956 : Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956 bill into law. The National Interstate and Defense Highways Act was for the construction of 41,000 miles of interstate highways over a 20-year period and was the largest public works project ever undertaken. Sure makes it nice getting to Tech athletic events. I remember as a child playing in the dirtwork when I-20 was being built through Ruston.
    • 2009 Bernie Madoff Sentenced Jun. 29th, 2009: Bernard Madoff, the man behind one of the largest investment fraud crimes in history, was sentenced to one hundred and fifty years in prison for stealing sixty-five billion dollars from investors. After the sentence was announced the courtroom audience applauded and cheered.

Re: If you want a thread to die

Ms. Terri asked her Sunday School class to draw pictures of their favorite Bible stories.
She was puzzled by Kyle's picture, which showed four people on an airplane,
So she asked him which story it was meant to represent.
"The Flight to Egypt ," was his reply.
Pointing at each figure, Ms. Terri said,
"That must be Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus.
    But who's the fourth person?"
"Oh, that's Pontius - the pilot!"

Re: If you want a thread to die

On this date in history, June 30:

1953: The first Corvette, the first all-fiberglass-bodied American sports car rolled off the assembly line on this day, and with it's sleek lines is considered among the best cars ever produced by the American Car Industry.

1955: The Johnny Carson Show debuted on CBS TV.

1971: US voting age lowered to 18 when Ohio becomes the 38th state to approve lowering the age to 18, this ratifying the 26th amendment.

2014: Original "If You Want A Thread To Die" thread shuffled around for what seems like the umpteenth time, similar to nature when a jackal pees on a tree to mark his territory.

So...who wants to talk about football. After all, this thread SHOULD BE in the Blond Bomber forum. I think we are going to have a damn good team this year. Our coaches went out and got some BIG boys for the O line and D line!!!! And we have some good QB prospects coming in. I think the dawgs are going to surprise some people this year!!

Re: If you want a thread to die

Love Louisiana Tech football!! 60 days until gameday, including today.

Saw my first Tech game in either 1957 or 58 as a Ruston kid, I'll have to look it up. Was at the first game in JAS!! I've posted before that in grad school in baton rouge I'd drive up to Ruston for TECH games even if the baton rouge guys were at home.

Ok Russ, you went to the first game in JAS when we beat East Carolina. I assume you went to the last game in the old Memorial Stadium. Who did we play? Probably Northeast. The last game I went to there was Lamar when Phil Roberston had his best game and it was a breakout game for Ken Liberto, but don't know if it was the last game.

We're an anarcho-syndicous commune. We take it in turns to act as a sort of an officer for the week, but all the decisions of the officer must be ratified at a biweekly meeting by a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs, but by a 2/3rds majority in the case of...
