    Re: Immigration

I am, actually, okay with sending help to their country and making it safe for them. I still haven't heard the answer for my question, though. I was asking how some conservative Christians justify nationalism vs. what the Bible states. It seems selective to me. So, some of you can blast me for being too liberal or get off topic, but I haven't seen the answer.

You seem to be saying that an ideology should be followed when, in fact, tough decisions about specific issues are required.

You won't get an answer because there's not a good one.

That is what I thought. What I don't understand is why some can't see that.

Tough decisions must be made to protect our country or to follow what is one of the most fundamental teachings of the Bible? The one part of the Bible that no one disagrees with.......

I've been trying. My answer is why can't we have both? Be good Americans and protect our country's interests by sending them back and be good Christians by helping them with their problem in their country. Maybe I don't understand what you are really asking?

Do you have someone specific in mind who prefers nationalism over God's word?

I think many many people are doing that in our country. However, I was not judging. I would like to know if people understand that there is a difference.

Are you saying immigration laws are / can be ungodly? God was pretty strict about Israel's immigration laws. He didn't want foreigners to come in and corrupt them. But they were a very special people with a very special role on the planet. Some believe America is like Israel and the Constitution was divinely inspired. So love of God and country can go hand in hand. But we are different than Israel in that this whole nation is immigrants at some point. Our legal immigration system has been breached.

There are many references to welcoming others into your home and country. This is a good one:
Matthew 25: 35 I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.

There are many more examples, though:
Deuteronomy 10: 19 You shall love the stranger, for you were once strangers in the land of Egypt.
Leviticus 19:34 The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.
Luke 10:27 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbour as yourself.
Matt. 5:43-44 You have heard that it was said, ‘you shall love your neighbour and hate your enemy’. But I say to you, love your enemy and pray for those who persecute you.
Romans 13:8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.

Romans 13:10 Love does no wrong to a neighbour, therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Romans 12:13 Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers.
Acts 10:34 Then Peter began to speak to them: “I truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.
Revelation 21:3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “See the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them as their God; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them.”
3 John 1:5 Beloved, you do faithfully whatever you do for the friends, even though they are strangers to you; they have testified to your love before the church. You do well to send them on in a manner worthy of God; for they began their journey for the sake of Christ, accepting no support from non-believers. Therefore we ought to support such people, so that they may become co-workers with the truth.
Hebrews 13: 1 Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.
Collossians 3:11 In that renewal there is no longer Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and free; but Christ is all and in all.

Matt. 25:40 Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of my brethren you did it to me.

Not to mention the verses about children............

    One of hundreds about children:
Exodus 22:22-23 "Do not take advantage of a widow or an orphan. If you do and they cry out to me, I will certainly hear their cry."
My point is that the laws of man are not necessarily in line with what the Bible states, yet many justify their actions based on believing the the U.S. is above the Bible (when it affects them).

Are you really just saying that we should have open borders and accept everyone who wants to come here?

I think he may be saying that's what the Bible says. WWJD is more than a catchy rubber bracelet.

The Bible is not foolish. We don't have open borders because there are people who want to do us harm... terrorists, criminals, etc... We need to have a process of selection to protect ourselves. Open borders would be foolish, imo.
