Some of their posters think they still have 2 QBs better than Sokol. Guess they will win the NC this year.![]()
Captain Checkdown. Now that was funny.
Iowa plays good D but there Offense is right out of the 1930's. Iowa just found out this year you can throw a forward pass. Surprised Sokol chose Iowa over AZ. Wish we could have Sokol more than 1 year.
If Tech played Iowa like the last 2 games it would be a blowout for Tech. Big 10 schools not named Ohio State are just good mid majors.
Always shake my head when someone alludes to "the system" and then discounts the accomplishments of the individual players.....that make any "system" work. Coaches recruit to a "system," and that includes OL and others, not just the QB. If Tech ran the old wishbone, or triple option like Navy, we'd have to recruit different looking players. The QB would HAVE to be a guy who could handle the ball in an option and be able to take a beating running the ball himself.
Well.....Tech's "system" is wide-open passing.....mostly. So, it comes as a surprise that Tech recruits throwing QBs and WRs who can get downfield and RUN all kinds of patterns? And recruits OL with a talent for pass-blocking?
Duh!
Dear U of Iowa,
If you have any more former JuCo All-American 2nd Team QBs like Cody SoKooool who don't "fit" in your offense, please send them our way!
Sincerely!!!
Ecstatic Louisiana Tech Fans
Here's the smartest post on that enire Hawkeye Board:
This kid (Sokol) had no business being a Hawkeye QB, as he has way too much talent to play for Kirk Ferentz.
Never have truer words been spoken. Coincidentally, I watched Iowa just barely beat totally outmanned Ball State last week, and that was the most boring football game I've seen so far this season. Bluntly, Iowa is awful this year. Meanwhile, Sokol is looking like Tom Brady every time he drops back in the pocket.![]()
Our offense this year is more like what Mickey coached back in the late 60's and 70's, especially since we are using a TE now. It's not your typical spread where the QB throws a lot of short passes. Sokol can go down the field with it. He only threw 33 passes against Lafayette and 31 against North Texas. I like this offense better because it is so versatile. Would you call this "old school"? I wish Mickey was on here to comment about it. I bet he loves it. I also like to see the QB lining up under the center.
I LOVED the full-house backfield with 2 TEs on that TD. We ran that offense in jr high, ummm, some decades ago.
Funny that one poster doesn't think we have the wide receivers they've got when our two outside guys are Power 5 transfers. It's funny to read people's comments on something/someone they haven't taken the time to learn.
I've seen Iowa play this year. And I've seen LA Tech play. Cody Sokol and LA Tech would beat this years Iowa team by 40 points.
Kinda reminds me of Illinois and Virginia's assessment of us a couple years ago. "LaTech doesn't have the talent, or the speed, or the beef, or the competition to hang with us. Their Qb is a product of the system etc etc."
Some things never change...
Ball State loses to Indiana State. Wonder if some of the Iowa fans still think Ball State is better than UNT? Iowa only had to score 2 TDs in the last 3 minutes last week to beat Ball State.
