So what is your point? If they were deported that tax collections would be less. That would mean that the money earned by an illegal would not be earned by a citizen who would pay taxes legally.

What you said was there was no benefit. I will concede to you that some Americans will be injured by immigrants. More will benefit.

If this were true, would they not be living in the same abject poverty they risked their lives to flee from?
You are only looking at this through the illegals eyes. Please give me a reason to change my mind about what benefits illegals provide. I am all for legal immigration which I concede also causes harm to american workers but at least the LEGAL immigrant is not breaking our laws and will hopefully assimilate to American society.

That is an argument against Americans having those jobs. Cost of doing business will end up being too great.

It worked in american for more than 150 years so I can assume that the welfare state is just as much of a problem as illegals.
It did not work in America at all before, and nothing that's been done to "fix" it has helped.

The money wouldn't be earned by Americans. Frankly, you would end up needing a new WPA that forces people between 16 and lets be generous, 29, to work crap jobs, for crap wages and zero benefits. As market-oreinteted we want to be, the market has spoken - CHEAP labor. Like most of those type of jobs, they are meant as stepping stones, not a way of life. We can't afford to outsource our agriculture and physical support, too. Things would overall get a lot worse for everyone.

Americans are too expensive. Another symptom to fix.

I get the tax angle, but it is an ultimately losing argument.

Jubru, you make a valid argument about the inflation that would be cause by raising wages. I agree our economy may not be able to handle the increase. I was going to bring up the federal reserve and my issues but I am trying to stay on point. The fed is going to cause more inflation than a wage increase.

I know that illegals that built my house and I believe Americans could build it and I wouldn't complain about it costing more. I would buy a smaller house. My taxes would be lower since there would be less on welfare. No sure if the tax reduction would be enough to offset the increased cost but it would be much more appealing to me.

As for it not working for 150 years, you do realize the USA did not have welfare prior to the new deal in the late 1920s. You either worked or you are on the bread line. We have made it to easy for people on welfare. Illegals and democrats and Rinos helped by destroying the work ethic of 5 generations. We are now seeing the fruits of those decisions.

It's a chicken and egg question. If the illegals couldn't find work because citizens were doing those jobs, would they still come? Would illegals come if the welfare system was denied to them? I don't know the answer because too many Americans are on welfare or sucking off the government teet. California doesn't even discern between a citizen and illegal, they are one and the same in CA's law.

    Re: Immigration

We are all being too PC here as usual. As noted on another thread, a huge portion of the poor and low to middle income blacks and whites are the ones that have become incredibly lazy. And these are now refusing to work and instead take free $$ from the other producing, tax paying citizens via our liberal government. These black, whites and minorities are the ones that will lose out on the paying jobs. That actually will allow the new illegals to pass them by and up the food chain as legal asians and mexicans have done that are willing to do the jobs that these lazy ones mentioned above will not do. There it's been said. And yes many need the assistance due to some unforeseen incident so don't give me that dribble because we all have hearts here and understand those people/circumstances need some minor help to get their head above water and then MOVE ON!

And then there are the politicos that want to take advantage of these folks for various self serving political reasons. They have brought this class of folks to the gutter of despair on purpose. America is in sad shape.

Besides keeping costs down because the American unemployed won't do the jobs many illegals do, what other benefits? It's easy to discount someone who doesn't agree with you and is just assholery to imply they are ignorant.

First! I admit I'm an asshole. It is one of my defining characteristics. Second, I am not trying to convince anyone of anything, so disagreeing with me is not an issue on this topic. The fact is, I am still working through the issue and am formulating my opinion day to day. I just want to work through this mess In a rational and unemotional manner. Third, he/she does appear to be ignorant. To claim "all" immigrants send "all" of their money above necessities back to their home country is ignorant, and I have no desire to discuss the issue with a person that "irrational," Fourth, I might have dealt with ignorance, but he/she would not stay on topic.

As I said earlier, it would be nearly impossible to work through this on a bulletin board. It didn't take long to see that was so.

He/she wanted to "change" his/her "mind." If that was what we were doing, I'm not interested

Finally, I would be remiss not to point out that the pot just called this kettle black.

And 4 of the 10 ISIS members were caught crossing our border. California Congressman Duncan Hunter, a former Marine Corp Major and member of the House Armed Services Committee wouldn't lie!! Do you even seek the truth in news? Not speculation on who's going to win a election but real daily truth? No you don't because libs don't know how or even want to know the truth.

JW Confirms: 4 ISIS Terrorists Arrested in Texas in Last 36 Hours ...

    www.judicialwatch.org/.../jw-confirms-4-isis-terrorists-arrested-texas-last-36- hours/

    OCTOBER 08, 2014

Islamic terrorists have entered the United States through the Mexican border and Homeland Security sources tell Judicial Watch that four have been apprehended in the last 36 hours by federal authorities and the Texas Department of Public Safety in McAllen and Pharr.
JW confirmed this after California Congressman Duncan Hunter, a former Marine Corp Major and member of the House Armed Services Committee, disclosed on national television that at least ten Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) fighters have been caught crossing the Mexican border in Texas. The veteran lawmaker got the astounding intel straight from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Homeland Security agency responsible for guarding the 1,933-mile southern border.
“If you really want to protect Americans from ISIS, you secure the southern border,” Hunter proclaimed on a national cable news show this week. “It’s that simple. ISIS doesn’t have a navy, they don’t have an air force, they don’t have nuclear weapons. The only way that ISIS is going to harm Americans is by coming in through the southern border – which they already have.” The three-term congressmen went on: “They aren’t flying B-1 bombers, bombing American cities, but they are going to be bombing American cities coming across from Mexico.”
In late August JW reported that Islamic terrorist groups are operating in the Mexican border city of Ciudad Juarez and planning to attack the United States with car bombs or other vehicle borne improvised explosive devices (VBIED). High-level federal law enforcement, intelligence and other sources confirmed to JW that a warning bulletin for an imminent terrorist attack on the border has been issued. Agents across a number of Homeland Security, Justice and Defense agencies have all been placed on alert and instructed to aggressively work all possible leads and sources concerning this imminent terrorist threat.
