It's probably an unpopular opinion, but it really doesn't bother me that we didn't play in the I-bowl in 2012. I feel bad for the players, but we are talking about a game against ULM. There is certainly bad perception from one of our best teams ever not going to a bowl game, but it was the I-bowl and ULM.
I have no love lost for the I-bowl. if they have made some changes behind the scenes to mend the fences with us then great. I hope we can build a positive relationship going forward. If not, then we should play there when it is convenient for us and only then. This year they look to have a P5 team and a decent date so it is high on my list.
Hey, that sounds great and logical to you and I, but I was trying to see it from teenagers point of views. Pull a local prospect over to the side and give him those options. If I see Dora at church Sunday I'm going to get his opinion. P.S. This is off subject but three of them were baptised last month.
I am in favor of the idea of playing a P5 within travel distance of Louisiana, rather than a nobody team somewhere far away like New Mexico on Christmas Eve. I'm still not happy about the 2012 situation. That said, your statement on crowd size and proximity to Ruston does sound alot like what I would expect to hear in Lafayette regarding the New Orleans Bowl. Yes, the NO Bowl is not the same as the IBowl, from a payout, opponent, TV perspective.
Question: if we go to the IBowl, and this same opportunity presents itself next year, will you make the same arguement for another IBowl bid?
Obviously that depends on several factors, including......
1) What other "bowl" options do we have? What are the payouts? Off the top of my head, the HOD would be very attractive to us in most years.....
2) How good will our team be? In other words, is our team good enough to play a Michigan or a Penn St in the HOD Bowl, or another P5 team in another bowl?
3) Who would the opponent be in the Indy bowl? If it's Ohio or a MAC team, I'm not interested. If it's an ACC or SEC team, I'm very interested!!
