league credibility for better or worse --- we revel in our NFL pipeline .... whenever CUSA on tv they talk about NFL players from schools .. so it is natural to wonder who has shot. Think how we followed Patton, White any player on NFL roster ... believe it or not I agree with you that potential NFL career should not matter but it is only natural to wonder has shot at big time

"When I look at the year some of the guys had on the defensive side of the ball and what this defense was able to do, I think it's sad for one of the teams that played in the championship game and one of the better defenses in the league only had a couple," Holtz said. "I was disappointed there weren't more."

WKU's Doughty wins MVP despite second-team selection
Another talking point Friday was the curious decision by C-USA coaches to vote Western Kentucky quarterback Brandon Doughty as the league MVP a day after voting him to the second team behind first-team quarterback Rakeem Cato, who ended up winning C-USA Player of the Year.

Logic indicates the MVP would also be on the first team, something Holtz agreed with. But that's not how the rest of the coaches viewed it.

"I can't tell you why people vote the way they do, but I think when you look at it, you have to look at it that way," Holtz said. "If you're going to vote for the MVP, you put him first team somewhere on your ballot. If he's going to be the MVP, you don't make him a second-team on your ballot and then make him the MVP of the league."

Here is the logic--- not saying I agree but think I understand, I watched Marshall play couple of times and announcers continually said the running back was MVP of team --of course they loved Cato but felt not having rb at full speed hurt them last couple games. The logic was Doughtery was doing it without same support and if he had been at Marshall blah blah. I dont think they had balls to put him ahead of Cato on ballets and went with him under the old "value to team" system. Me-- if you use that as criteria , most Tech fans would say Sokol was league MVP.. I do know this, the defensive first team list was CRAP!! Cusa will never see a defense like we put on field this year again-- pure crap in my opinion ... totally shut down scoring machines of all Cusa teams
