Just a question- Foes Dusty have the contacts FHCMW had to be able to bring in viable asst. coaches that would continue to build our program?

Although he would certainly not be under any obligation to do so, I think White would probably help May identify potential assistant coaches and put in a good word for him. But May might have a lot of contacts anyway.

    Good gosh.

Don't you guys and gals think May has been working on this . . . say . . . for the last two years? I started focusing on him about January of 2014 after I was privy to a practice or two. He was running the show with highlighting by Mike White.

Sisabella and I had a brief conversation about his future role one at Tech morning at B'mingham at C-USA tourney.

PS--I really have been humored by those of you veteran MBB athletic supporters saying this past week "I don't know May." Dusty May, the Associate Head Coach, and you say you're a MBB enthusiast?

I left for a one week cruise to Jamaica and you guys let this happen! Just kidding...... It was a shocker, since I have been out of touch this last week, though. May would be my choice for a replacement and I hold nothing against Mike White. Great guy with class......

I don't suffer from "Jerry Loyd Syndrome" or "Keith Richard Syndrome". Both of these assistants were promoted to head coach when the prior coach departed for another job.

I prefer to remember Tommy Joe Eagles - another assistant promoted to head coach. Tommy Joe continued the success of Andy Russo and left the program in very good shape with solid players who had a 63-27 record with 2 NIT's and 1 NCAA appearance under Jerry Loyd. It was Jerry Loyd's lack of recruiting success that was the major problem. His 4th and 5th year with his own recruits were horrible. We still have not fully recovered.

I'm going on record that I have no problem with Dusty May being our new head coach.
To play devils advocate; remember the last time we didn't hire a long time assistant coach and the success that particular coach has gone on to have? Also hiring internally I think comes with the "stick" that becomes the media hot word during free agency known as the "hometown discount". I don't remember any football players campaigning for one of Dykes assistants to stick around when he left.... We all love and respect Speedy along with everything he's done for this university so why not take his word for it and save ourselves the cost of a search firm?

I wanted to point out that Dusty and I are not friends before I gave an evaluation of him.

And, for the record, Dusty and I are not "friends" or regular acquaintances either. My comments are my own and my own evaluation. I am just humored that some veteran observers admit they don't know who or what MW's top assistant was or did.

Re: Hiring a new Basketball coach at LA Tech

I've been able to attend the last 4 conference tournaments and have traveled to watch quite a few games over the past 4 years. I've also attended practices. My observations are that Dusty has played a very big role in recruiting, game planning, and game strategy.

I don't know any coaches or players real well, but have had conversations with most of them. Several former and current players have told me, after being asked, that Dusty May would be a good head coach if Mike White left. I've not heard any negative comments about Dusty.

Dusty May can handle a head coach position. It may not be the Louisiana Tech job, but somebody will give him a chance. Dusty has the skills to be great coach.

Ditto to everything HoDo said. I too have been around the team and coaches over the past few years at home and on the road. The attractiveness that Dusty has is that he could provide continuity to the program even in the midst of a head coaching change. Not saying he is a Mike White clone, but he knows the players, the admin, the supporters, the opponents, the community, etc. The guy is intense, focused, and high-energy!

the "veteran observers" you speak of, know not not of what they speaketh - one in particular has bullied his way thru this site at will for years. I follow Sean Isabella our beat writers' tweets and get a fair and balanced analysis of Tech sports.

I have known Dusty since 1996. As far as I know, the players want him to be their next coach and that should carry some weight. Is he ready? Who knows? My point is we can not drag our feet. We need to keep that guard from FL. and we need to keep the players that we have. And I got one we def need to add to the roster for 2016.

The only player who has said anything that sounds like he may consider transferring is McCree. I don't think he's willing to give up his junior season for that. And a 5th year transfer who will only be here one season should have NO say in the future of our basketball program. Hire the best coach we can get and he will take care of the rest.

I was talking about the high school kid from Florida. No worries here about the 5th year guy.
