W-what....? You cut me to the quick. What, I can't be optimistic? Is that against BB&B rules or something?
LOL! now that's funny.![]()
Scheduling is a problem for Tech, not the rest of C-USA. The rest of the conference gets some good home and neutral site games. Tech doesn't.
The problem for the majority of C-USA is that they simply stink. This season other C-USA teams lost non-DI games to William Carey, Texas-Permian Basin, and Warner, and those horrible losses don't affect RPI. I won't even count the C-USA home losses to SWAC/Southlandesque teams. Also, wins over peer or better conferences are severely lacking.
KenPom is a much more accurate representation of how good teams are, and C-USA has embarrassingly dropped below the Belch for the first time in history.C-USA's basketball strength has dropped to historic lows each season we've been in the conference. C-USA was #11 the season before we joined and then dropped to #15 in 2013-14, #17 in 2014-15, and now #20 in 2015-16. That trend is a major problem and has nothing to do with scheduling for RPI.
Tech is 11-2 with zero shot at an NCAA at-large bid because of our own poor OOC scheduling. Our schedule sucks, but it was a step in the right direction. Like I've said several times before, I do think Konkol is taking positive steps to improve upon the garbage schedules White put together.
The bottomline is the rest of the conference must improve their product, not their scheduling. It's Tech that needs to improve scheduling. It's pretty bad when possibly the best team in the conference has no shot at an NCAA at-large bid before the season even starts. The only things we can control are our OOC schedule and our performance.

You already know that many top ranked teams will not schedule us for home and homes knowing we could kick their arse. Plain and simple. Mike White mentioned this time and time again.
I agree with most of your points and we agree that we only have partial control of the situation. However, more than likely, both 1) poor performance and 2) poor scheduling are factors in the low RPI's for conference mates. Conference mates scheduling (and losing) to teams such as William Carey, Texas-Permian Basin, and Warner clearly indicate poor performance. I've looked at some of the other team's OOC schedules and some have a few good RPI games, but all of the ones I looked at could use improvement. However, that's easier said than done. The reality is that the P5 teams do their best to keep teams like us from getting at-large bids.
As you said, the only things we can control are our OOC schedule and our performance. However, our conference mates do need to improve scheduling along with performance. I hope Coach Konkol can put together a significantly better OOC schedule for us in the future. Maybe our conference mates can do the same.
It's clear to me just watching from the stands that C-USA does not have the caliber of teams from top to bottom that we faced in the WAC. However, the declining RPI is also because better teams moving on to a different conference were replaced by teams not as good.
Huh? I never said we should be scheduling "top ranked teams" for home-and-homes. I don't think anybody has said that we should be able to do that. You are making up stuff.
Some you y'all were saying teams would be lining up to schedule us this year after we lost Speedy, Raheem, and Mike.
Mike White was mostly full of crap when it came to scheduling. He sucked at it and gave us excuse after excuse while he piled up wins against crappy teams to pad his resume to get out of Ruston. White was possibly totally incompetent using very poor strategies when it came to scheduling, but when he left, it became more apparent that he simply didn't try hard enough when it came to scheduling. Konkol inherited one of the worst MTE deals in the country from White and a return game from a SWAC school. That was it for what would've been Year 5 of White's tenure. White may have been the best coach in C-USA, but he was without a doubt the worst scheduler in the conference.
