How long before Major Applewhite gets a HC position?

I think he is smart enough to wait around for the right job. Going to the wrong G5 can be a career killer. Working as an OC is much safer as a stepping stone.

This is our expectation. He'll leave for a Louisiana Tech kind of job, but not for a UTEP job. (Possible exception being Rice, which would let him stay in Houston.)

Also, if he sticks around, he would be a strong candidate to be Herman's successor whenever he leaves.

He's from Louisiana, so it wouldn't be a culture shock for him to move back here.

Yep, which is what I expected. A bit more worried about UTSA. It's a much better job. Also, his wife is a San Antonio native and he kind of owes her a solid. (OTOH, she supposedly has a job in Houston that she doesn't want to leave.)

Kind of surprised Larry Coker has stepped down at UTSA. Thought he'd stick around long enough to get them into their first bowl.

It could be also because they (UH, Tom Herman, & Applewhite) just got Kyle Allen to come here to play in 2017-18!!!! If he is at all as good as advertised, they should be looking at 4 years in a row of Access Bowl participation with Ward, Jr playing again next year! After that kind of run, Applewhite can either write his own ticket to a P5 school or the UT job will be his - if Herman doesn't get it first!
