Re: If you want a thread to die

Does anyone else remember how we had to break in a new pair of stiff as a board blue jeans back in the 1960s ?? When they were new...they were so stiff, they could stand up bythemselves!! Stonewashed jeans were unheard of.

I would tie the legs together in three knots. The street where I lived was a concrete street. So, I would put them in the street and kick them all the way down the street (a block long). Then, I'd kick them back up the street. After that, I would grab the pants legs, swing them as hard as I could and hit the rear and front of the pants up against the trunk of a large oak tree about 50-60 times on each side. Then they were ready to wash.

After they were washed twice, I would start the above process over again until it had been done three times. Then, they were comfortable to wear.

So . . . at your current age, you've worn, what, 3 pairs of jeans you've had time to break in?

After all of that my mother would then starch them until they were stiff as boards again and iron them.

Exactly!!! And, Oh, when washed for the first several times....anything washed with them would be blue when taken out of the washer! Even after the initial break-in, if I played football, baseball, basketball, etc.....my legs would have blue color on them when I took off the jeans!!

I guess there aren't many fans on here that were alive in the 60s and had to deal with those new blue jeans!!! I wonder how 65 broke in his jeans??

Maybe 65 didn't wear jeans. I had two roommates from Pineville my freshman year who didn't. City boys.

Slacks or shorts? Well, we were poor, so we wore jeans. Of course, back then, if your jeans got holes in the knees...you cut the legs off and made shorts out of them. Even poor people did not wear jeans with holes in the knees. Times have sure changed.
