How does ull have such a high rpi?
-
They beat Mississippi State first game of the season and State has been rolling in the SEC. That helps the Cajuns enormously.
-
They also beat UC-Charlotte at their place -- who beat Cinncinatti
They are 10-1 in their conference and the only reason they are not higher is that they were beaten by McNeese and Birmingham Southern - when their best guys were out for a funeral and something else.
They could be a sleeper if they get into the tourney. Their big sophomore guy (who signed with KY and then got arrested for grass) is the dominant player in the Belt.
I read on thier board that thier talent level is almost up to their greta teams of the early 70's when they were ranked #4 in the country.
RPI ratings are wishy-washy sometimes, but in this instance they may be ranked too low. Those losses without the big guns are included.
-
Gotcha! They are having a good season then.
-
Their coach has great contacts. He was #1 assistant at AZ State the year they won the NCAA's. He was at Texas and he coached Kevin McHale as an assistant at MN. Needless to say, with good players from Chicago, Los Angeles, Colombus, OH, he recruits nationwide.

Big Dog
Southall might dominate in the SunBelt, but I remember last season's NIT game where Tiger had his way with him inside. Absolutely dominated him!!!!!
-
Although you are correct, I wouldn't call dominating a freshman a real test.... especially one who had to work at staying out of foul trouble. Maybe that had something to do with his play at the TAC.
-
There is no doubt we really shut him down last year, but to quote an old Jerry Clower story... "I'll give you a half scholarship just looking at you." The guy is really a basketball specimen. And to be fair, he was just a freshman last year.
