There is something strange about the Trump supporters. I didn't buy into the narrative of the violence Trump causes at rallies, but I heard police had to escort Heidi Cruz out because the crowd turned on her. Scary stuff.

I've had that privilege twice in my lifetime, 1980 and 1984, for Ronaldo Maximus!

Ted Cruz did some damage to his political future last night by not endorsing Trump. It could have been a lukewarm endorsement, kind of like: given our choices I will be voting for Trump in November. And after Cruz explained why the Repub platform is the better choice, Cruz could have acknowledged that Trump is carrying that torch. But....he didn't. Republican voters have long memories.

    By contrast, Newt nailed it!

Cruz doesn't do politics very well. Remember, he has no friends in DC and Boehner called him Lucifer. He's not going to say something he doesn't believe to win friends and influence people. It's just who he is. He was sincerely pissed that Trump branded him as a liar, an adulterer, made fun of his wife's looks, and claimed his father played a role in the JFK assassination. It was personal.

Cruz proved himself a petulant child. For those of you who embrace his principles, I fear that his political shot in the foot, plus a Trump win, will cause a "yuge" backlash, a regression to the mean.

I've seen some Democrat friends of mine on social media saying Cruz stood by his principles and demonstrated character, but you can bet they wouldn't have supported Sanders doing the same thing to Clinton. Modern political conventions have become the equivalent of being invited into the nominee's home. Cruz went into Trump's house and refused to flush.

I don't understand the problem. Aren't Trump's supporters of the mindset that voting your conscience will mean voting for Trump? Why in the world would they assume that someone voting their conscience would not vote for their candidate? And if that phrase is a phrase that makes you think someone is taking a shot at your guy, what does that tell you about your guy?

Anyone who doesn't vote for Batman is just helping Clinton or Trump get elected.

Wait! You mean that when he told voters to vote their conscience he didn't mean they should vote for Trump? Why would someone's conscience tell them not to vote for Trump? Why would his supporters assume that it wouldn't?

Not scary at all. You must have been watching it on CNN or one of the other drive bys that LOVE to paint any conservative as a loon, but ignore idiots like BLM and Michelle Obama.

Exactly. What did Cruz expect? He was jeering the crowd from the podium.

He actually convinced me to vote for Trump. I was going to sit it out. He said do not sit it out, go vote your conscience (which for me is a vote against Hillary). I think he was speaking to his supporters when he said that. But, I can't do it because of the reaction of the idiots who didn't get a Trump endorsement. I'm sitting it out as of now.

You mean "vote your conscience" doesn't mean "vote for Trump?"

    Even to his own supporters?

Especially after he had just laid out the case of why the Republican party is better than Obama and Hillary. They are just butt hurt that he didn't praise Donald Trump, the man. That would have been impossible for Ted... and a lie.

I think he could have really helped his career rather than harm it by simply telling the truth. He could have said there is no way on earth I will ever vote for Hillary and I am putting aside my differences for the good of American and I will be voting for Trump. He would not have had to say anything other than that. He had a great speech up until the time he refused to say that and got rightfully booed off the stage. I really like Cruz, but he didn't finish the way he should have last night.

He never had to lie or praise Trump. He only had to say he loved American so he would be supporting Trump to keep Hillary out of the white house. I do like Cruz and wish he had been the candidate, but I do believe he screwed up last night. I loved his speech up until the end, and he was right in every way prior to that.
