Ok, this topic has been hashed and rehashed ALL season.
IS it Baker not knowing his head from his butt
and the players doing what they have been coached to do?
OR
Does Baker actually know what he is doing and the players are not following through with the play?
AND while I'm posting;
Does anyone know why we do not have a Special Teams coach?
I personally know a recruit's family that came this season for one an official visit.
A punter/kicker his H.S. AVG field goal range is 42 yards, with a record of a 58 yard field goal. Now I'm no expert by any means but that impressed me.
In talking with he and his family they asked me why special team assignments were divided among the various coaches.
Unfortunately Marshall or Tennessee may beat us out of this player.![]()
A quick search revealed that Marshall doesn't list a special teams coordinator, nor does lsu. MTSU has a coach assigned to olineman, tight ends, and special teams. NCAA has a limit to the # of coaches a school can employ. The special teams duties are either assigned to a position coach, or shared. Those were just 3 schools I typed in. Only reason I used lsu as an example is to show that even "big time" schools don't have a coach just dedicated to special teams. It is a little odd. After all, special teams may only account for 10-15% of the plays a team will run in a game, but we saw this year that special teams may ultimately win the game.
That's the million dollar question. It seems that we have more talent than the results we are getting (Southern Miss has similar talent and finished in the Top 15 in total defense). The problem is clearly playing against explosive offenses who can throw the ball very well though (Texas Tech, MT, WKU, Southern Miss this year). Too many guys run wide open. Sometimes it looks like scheme (when a player is no where near the receiver) and sometimes it looks like personnel (when a receiver out-runs a DB or LB). In the end.... I don't know what the answer is... a little of both?
find me a supporter for 50 years -- my favorite response is I have an athletic scholarship in my honor-- yeah its cheesy to bring it up but when they announced it at event this yr they mentioned " a certain web site that he holds his own". Simple fact is I take ANY post by you as a troll post. Being a positive rah rah guy is opposite of you-- and I would actually respect any "die hard fan" who supports his alumn . I sure as hell respect a die hard ULM-ULL-Tulane_ NWST fan more than ones who jump on LSU boat. I remember you posting few weeks ago you were looking for new school to support ..... so tell me why I should be concerned what you think .....
Wait -- you have a scholarship named for you?
You don't say ...
special teams question-- as I understand it a school can only have x number coaches. we would have to eliminate a position coach to hire Special teams coach ( also $ issues) -- usually my friends bring up having 2 receiver coaches . Also the NCAA is debating allowing a special teams coach . Now I have know idea if this is current info-- it was topic few months ago
You need to sit around me at a game-- I get very upset like everyone else -- I try to calm down before posting . Do not take this as happy with Defense but we did a few things well . We lead CUSA in Sacks with 44 -wk #2 with 34. J Ferguson had most sacks and Xavier with most picks (5). we were #6 in CUSA for points given up (32 per game). I swear that 32 average seems wrong-- in my mind we were giving up 50 per games. Hope you have a great 2017 --know that for you to have a great year--so Will Tech -- !
It reads " commemorating the Northwest La Tech Advancement Group Scholarship at La Tech University " in honor of. Dr Guice handed it to me. I was shocked -- my brothers came over from Dallas ( 4 Tech grads).....
So here is the problem, if I bring it up does it qualify as gloating or being overly self righteous. Actually it makes me happy that being die hard for 50 years and for some reason getting something like that for supporting the college that changed my life just makes me happy ( and having grandkids at event ) -- I have a granddaughter at Byrd who has 18 hrs of Tech credits already -- Go Dogs
