Before everyone bashes J’Mar, I want to ask one question...

Did anyone see a single designed play called to utilize J’Mar’s running ability?

I saw a few busted plays, scrambles, but nothing designed as a QB run.

Our HC has taken a mobile QB and turned him into a pocket passer.

Hell he looks like he is scared to run. May be because of his propensity to fumble the freakin football. 3 in 2 games and another bobble while running tonight that was almost a fourth. He runs the spread offense, every play is designed as a possible qb run depending on what he sees from the defense. Many chances to pull and go but he didn't.

I don't believe there's a QB in the country that can be successful with 1 second before you're running for your life like JMar was tonight. Not to mention that was maybe the best coverage we'll see this year. I would also like to see him take off more.

J'Mar is a turnover machine. We have no quarterback. Sad situation.

Classic overreacting here. J'Mar is a sophomore with a Swiss cheese OL. That's the best defensive front we'll face all year.

Yes, it was ugly. Yes, it was about as bad as I've seen in Ruston. Yes, it was the best team we'll play all year.

Let's see what happens next week.

Agreed. JMar is not at the same level yet as our last 3 qbs. He's closer to where Higgins was before he sat, learned & improved THEREFORE until he improves as a passer Holyz needs to maximize his current strength - his legs. More true option aloowing him to run more much like MSU uses Fitzgerald- of course he has to protect the ball and can't keep fumbling. Holtz throughout camp always said he's gonna be (future tense) a rockstar. He knew he wasn't there yet. I think most of us made our assumptions based on a one game performance in which he had two NFL receivers that one of the two was likely open on every passing play. All JMar had to do was get the ball to them. Now he's forced to go through his progressions and that's obviously a work in progress. But in all fairness our receivers were shutdown tonight & our O line only pass protected well for one quarter
This team has more problems than just at QB - I think offensively it's several issues starting with our piss poor running game that would really help our passing game. We ran the ball much better in the 2nd half in both games. Tonight just too little too late.
Defensively - it was good to see some good LB play tonight
    MSU had some quality LBs
Ours are all 5'9" and can't see over the line of scrimmage
    We will get better.

Re: J'Mar is NOT the Answer

Our backup QB scored more points (1 TD) than our starting QB. Until our starting QB can STOP GIVING THE FOOTBALL TO THE OTHER TEAM we are going to suffer offensively.

Our OL is underperforming, but they had nothing to do with J'Mar scrambling and then trying to set and throw a 60 yard bomb pass. Are you kidding me!!! RUN THE FRIGGIN FOOTBALL OR GET RID OF IT QUICKLY!!!

J'Mar's QBR tonight was 2.8, the lowest I remember ever seeing. That's piss poor, at best.

I didn't know it went that low.

I don't remember ever seeing anything even approaching that measure for incompetence.

Re: J'Mar is NOT the Answer

Smith is a turnover machine. And, he not only has TOs but they are KILLER TOs! And, tonite, you can add his fumble that resulted in the 87 yard loss as a TO too.

I know you can't truly evaluate a game like this, but I'm gonna do it anyway to illustrate a point. Smith had 3 TO's that led to 20 pts for them, and combined with that loooong fumble, took away 4 scoring opportunities for us. So, if you apply a conservative assumption that we get 4 FGs on the ops, instead of zero points, then:

    Miss State 57 - 20 = 37
    Dawgs 21 + 12 = 33

A game that close becomes a one-play-away-game-changer! Who knows what happens in a close game like that?

Now, it is true we scored 6 pts after our INT return, so maybe you change the score to 37-27 them. Still, a competitive game. Smith's bumbling, stumbling turnovers turned what should have been a close, competitive game into a blowout. Of course we've seen this before. Like that USM game when we had SEVEN frickin' TOs!

Now...to be fair. Smith has had three starts: vs. two SEC opponents(0-2) and one not-so-good FCS (lost to a SWAC team) opponent. Perhaps we'll see some "normalcy" when we get a steady diet of mediocre CUSA opponents, and Smith has a chance to settle in and grow into the position. Okay. But right now, because of what the problem is, it looks fairly bleak. Has the makings of 2013 again.

Re: J'Mar is NOT the Answer

The only analysis really necessary is whether this was a game with high expectations. If that's the case, Tech turns into a junior high girls soccer team instead of a Division 1 football team of grown men.

J has tremendous upside. Hopefully we will see a steady trend upwards in performance level from him from here on out. I still believe he will eventually become a really good QB in time, but he isn't anywhere close to that now.
