To paint it as either or means we have to draw sides and retreat to our respective corners and yell at each other.
That's not my point at all. I see (what to me is) a fairly innocuous demonstration of a serious topic being reacted to in (what seems to me to be) a disproportionate way.

I guess I'm just not offended enough to think this merits calling for someone to lose their job, much less organizing a boycott.

Difference of opinions on his cause, difference of opinions on his form of protest, because he killed your alma mater in football, maybe just racism.

    Why do you think so?
Can you elaborate why "only 32 teams" matters? What percentage of the population is black?

Why do you think there would be difference in opinion between white and black NFL fans as to his cause and the form of protest?

Good question - and only 8 percent voted for Trump. No democrat since Kennedy has received less than 82 percent of the black vote. Is it just a coincidence that that swing of block support occurred after the Republican candidate (Goldwater) came out against the Civil Rights Act?

I finally found an answer on why they take a knee.

...to express outrage at the treatment of Blacks by police and other systemic social inequalities in America.

No answer yet on how the systematic social inequalities can be corrected. Isn't it amazing that the have their larges platform ever and NOBODY has said what they want or expect. Know why? Because it would not be enough.

They have done so eloquently. Not surprised FoxNews hasn't covered that facet.

Our society constantly discusses problems that don't have clear "here's how we fix it" paths: healthcare, cancer, genetic disorders, and the fact that Pepsi gave us a better deal than Coke at the Joe.

Perhaps, the expression and discussion is the goal? Perhaps we hate the expression and discussion because it makes us feel uncomfortable. We want a "fix" proposition so that it will go away.

Maybe you're right that it would not be enough. I've been studying the issue quite a bit in the last year or so and I can't think of a way to "even the playing field" that would be equitable or sufficient. Does that mean we ignore that there was an issue that still persists?

You could turn over your salary, if you have one, to the cause. If all of you snowflakes would do that then that might make things more equitable.

Have you interacted with the argument yet? Because not interacting with something that offends you seems like the definition of snowflake.

I am interacting. Are you going to contribute
your income to provide reparations to those impacted by systemic racism? It's a simple yes or no question.

If you think any answer is simple, then it's clear evidence that you haven't interacted with their argument. If you think, in interacting with me, that you're interacting with their argument, then you're mistaken. Your question is an attempt to invalidate me, thus invalidating my presentation of their argument. First, I could be a huge hypocrite and it would have NO bearing on the argument. Talk-radio likes to demonize the messenger in an effort to avoid their message. You may not realize it, but that's what you're attempting to do.

But, to answer your fallacious question, the answer is yes. I give my time and my money to help disadvantaged people here in Shreveport. The next time you're over, give me a call and I'll be glad to show you what I'm talking about.

The problem is, my impact is only what it is and it can have only limited/regional effect.

Our opinions on the matter are not that far apart. But I have the ability to look at each in a vacuum and see why people are so upset. On both sides of the argument.

I do find it offensive, but I do believe that there are a lot of people who don't realize what they are doing is offensive or don't realize how offensive it is. That's pretty interesting because I assumed this was pretty basic and universal among Americans. Anyone who has been to a large sporting event and heard the crowd reaction to the national anthem should be aware that there is as much (and more) passion for the anthem as there is for the two teams on the field. Sports brings people together across party lines but the anthem brought everyone together across party lines, through bitter on field rivalries, through almost everything. Especially when the country was facing conflict, internal or external.

Now that is being eroded away. One of the few things that we thought unified us is now dividing us. A lot of people don't like that.

You have got to be kidding. The last cat (Obama) was the master divider, how do you not see that?

Sure. There are only 32 teams so there are not many opportunities to own a franchise and many of them can be held for years without changing hands. That's a very small sample size to expect to perfectly represent race distribution in America. Anybody know what the race breakdown of billionaires in America is?

Could be a number of reasons. Maybe black people view him as protesting for black lives while white people see it more as a protest against police. Or maybe a larger percentage of white people view the anthem as an inappropriate time to make political statements.

I'll ask again, why do you think so?
