Two thirds of illegal immigrants come into the country legally. If we had better border security, wouldn’t we just have even more overstay their visa?

Yeah that is what I am talking about though - 2/3 of the illegal immigrants are those people that enter the country legally and then overstay their visa (non-immigrant visa).

Law breakers will always break the law. You either do EVERYTHING you can to curb the illegal activity or you might as well do nothing. So the answer is still a wall, more scrutiny at ports, more agents, and stricter enforcement.

I never said anything of the sort. You said we must do everything to curb illegal activity. I suggest deportation of all criminals. Why not? (Driving 5 over doesn’t count does it? If so, I retract my proposal)

I’m just trying to wrap my mind around all this stuff. It is simple on the surface, but complex in implementation. Is this an area where you operate by the 99% rule understanding that 1% will act illegally no matter what the laws and punishment may be? What type of monitoring and safeguards can we/do we put in place with migrants and visitors to ensure that they are following the law or be subject to deportation?

You can only do so much (more than what we’re currently doing), but I firmly believe the statistics show that illegal immigration is not the bugaboo that GOP politicians have made it out to be. It’s certainly not as simple as they’ve made it out to be.

I don’t know what the numbers are on people coming in through Canada. I would say address the problems as they arise. Which border is the larger concern right now?
