Trump was using a hard line negotiating tactic, just like he always does. He stakes out a position that is more than what he expects, then negotiates down to what he really wanted in the first place.

I keep hearing about how the wall is useless, but I have yet to see an idea that shows how to secure the border effectively. In all honesty, the only true way to stop these people from coming here to collect taxpayer funds is to do immigration and welfare reform....but neither side wants that to happen.

The only one that looked like a fool in the room was Chuck Schumer. He squirmed and wiggled and played for the cameras (just like always) and made political points without the slightest glimmer of smarts that might show he is capable of tackling an issue. Nancy and Donald made him look like a teenager watching a porno for the first time in his life. The man is without substance!

But why spend all that money on a border wall if it isn’t effective? Like I said, the border district republicans aren’t pushing for it. The only reason it is being pushed is because Trump campaigned on the useless idea.

    Re: Immigration

I can't see how a properly constructed wall wouldn't work. PROPERLY constructed, and supported by both electronic and human surveillance. (and motion-detector machine guns & minefields)

The reasons to have a properly CLOSED border are numerous, and will pay for itself in short order.

A WALL!!! with doors. I support LEGAL immigration. But, sorry, the world has changed and we can no longer afford to take in everyone. Immigration needs to be merit based. The question to be answered before admitting anyone is "what will this person do FOR us?" What will the immigrant contribute...not what they will take.

Border district Republicans disagree and you would think they have every reason to care about the solution.

Those RINOs only care about getting re-elected. Open borders have already flooded their districts with enough illegals...who thanks to Dem poll operatives now vote...multiple times. IF the illegals, and all the problems they bring, stayed in those border districts...and in California....I wouldn't care that much either. But they don't.

AND!!! illegals getting on welfare is NOT the only issue. It's the illegal drugs flowing across the border, it's terrorists flowing across the border!

Sorry, but this a national problem, that affects us all, one way or another, and is NOT about a handful of self-serving career politicians.

That makes zero sense. Those border districts would experience those problems more acutely than anywhere else, thus the voters in those distinct would support actual solutions.

Border districts benefit more from illegals than districts farther north. That's old news.

How so? Do they not also suffer an increased detriment relative to other districts?

Throughout the 2016 campaign, Trump insisted that Mexico would pay for his proposed border wall. Yesterday, he threatened to shut down the government unless taxpayers picked up the tab. Lolz

Apparently not. According to your link they are in favor of open borders.

Mexico will pay indirectly. It's difficult for Trump haters to understand how that will work. It's much easier to just brush it off as a failed promise.

It is and will be almost 100% effective just like Israel's fence and walls just as Trump stated, if you watched the video. Heck, China's Great Wall is as well.

Sounds like a liberal/dem Jessie Jackson/Sharpton shake down.

Caravan migrants demand $50G each to go back home, end to deportations

I can't see how ANY American could have an issue with "build a wall, with doors" and let's make LEGAL immigration a little less burdensome. The only condition would be some kind of litmus test where the immigrant has proof they will contribute to our society, not take from it. That would include student visas and work visas. Beyond that, the applicant would have to demonstrate they can readily secure gainful employment, and that they have a mastery of English.

You can’t see why an American would want to spend a lot of money for something that doesn’t work?

What we have now does NOT work! The Wall will pay for itself the first month.
