Identity politics was a creation of the left, and will likely be the cause of our complete collapse.

Gridlock was already there. If anything, the only thing that has changed is that some (not all) repubs are starting to take up for themselves. Take a look at what the dems have done to repub SC nominees as opposed to what repubs have done to those nominated by dems. Every repub nominee becomes a Constitutional crisis for the dems. Hard to get even a few dems to vote for a repub nominee. I guess all the repubs were for all the abortions Ginsburg could approve.

Now we have dems demagoguing an issue they approved of just a few years earlier (building a barrier, where needed, on our southern border), and demanding tax cuts for their wealthy constituents in high-tax states. Not to give the republicans a pass. When the dems were meeting behind closed doors creating the worst possible health care system possible, republicans were in full obstruct mode and did not attempt to get involved. Everything has become political, in the event you hadn't noticed.

National debt is horrible. Along with our identity politics it will destroy us. Republicans suck. Dems suck. It goes up no matter who is in there. I didn't see any interest in it when the "moderate" repubs were in charge. Remember, that stuff is done in the house (where pretend-conservative Ryan wore the crown) not in the White House. Let's see if we get any better from the Pelosi reign. I would bet it will be more of the same.
Are you saying you don't believe Trump has increased the division or gridlock? He hasn't emboldened the left? I just listened to Rush Limbaugh admit that Trump has no character and how that's okay now because times have changed.

Is this the new right? Count me out (and no PD and d80, that doesn't mean I'm a socialist or a dem...they're messed up too, but they were never who I identified with).

We both know what true character is. I don't know many politicians who have it. Certainly not people like John McCain or Mitt Romney along with many other RINOs.

    What's your political character limitation?

Mine is beating the socialists by doing whatever it takes. This is what they've been doing to the conservatives for the last 30plus years. We continue to roll over and take it, expecting things to change.

I think he has, only because Trump is the first Republican in my lifetime (President, or Congress) who has stood up to the media and didn't roll over. Trump obviously takes it to far on many occasions, but he has called out the MSM when they try to pass off opinion pieces as facts or make stuff up with "unnamed sources" that historically true journalists would not have run with.

Think about this.. Trump has democrats and progressives pushing for:

    Troops to Remain in Syria
    Troops to Remain in Afghanistan
Continued military operations in Syria and North Africa
Stop diplomatic talks with North Korea
Allowing China to get away with theft of US Corporate intellectual property

I would have never thought of Democrats being the war hawk party 8 years ago.

The new right? Is the old one the one that voted for the 19 trillion dollar debt and waged expensive, non-ending wars where they refused to actually OCCUPY the territory we won with taxpayer dollars and thousands of lives (you know, like we did after WW2)? The one that desires open borders at the cost of taxpayers in our welfare state so some corporation can pay labor less than a living wage, and supports unlevel trade deals that force our workers to compete with workers that make 5 bucks a day....once again to enrich corporations?

These same folks advocating open borders "for the children" turn a blind eye when they see unaccompanied minors dropped off in the desert to die or are hauled across dangerous territories with the clothes on their backs and little to eat, all in the anticipation of getting a foot in the door of our welfare system which will eventually consume us?

But I digress. No other President has ever caused division or gridlock. GWB was embraced by the dems as our (il)legitimate president. There was no strife during his term at all.

Yes, bad old Trump. I am not a great Trump fan, but the anti-Trumpers are completely off the reservation.

To add to this, many people in "flyover country" are usually many of the most tolerant people that I have met. Many of the progressive ideas such as gay marriage, trans, etc. most people I know are like "ok whatever" you do you and let me just go on about my life. It's when these ideas are forced into our daily lives as something we must deal with and have to succumb to the will of the minority is when we get pissed off as has happened over last several decades. Example: Wear a Hillary t shirt in most places in the South or flyover country and you will probably get some stares and that's about it. Wear a Trump shirt or cap in California or New York and you get assaulted or yelled at.

Very, very weak deflection. Doesn't work here.

No comment on the debt? Say what!? Apparently you don't read enough posts and/or threads. I have been commenting on the growing national debt for years on this forum. No, not just years, for decades.

All Reps are RINOs. All Dems are DINOs.

Know why? Because "Republican" and "Democrat" ARE JUST. NAMES. ONLY.

    Re: President Trump

I heard all about how he would hire the best people (he did okay...then fired most of them). I heard about all the shrewd deals he'd make (I'm sure Mexico is just about to write the check...and the chinese are certainly playing ball now right?). He'll give us conservative justices right (at least as conservative as Roberts...GWB is a hero to y'all right?)?

    We're two years in.

Dems are such a mess, he'll probably get 6 more. Let's hope he's all you've cracked him up to be. At this point, I'm unimpressed.

No, I can rebut all day long. I made a statement and you inferred from that statement that I had in some way defended the old GOP. You yell straw man all the time, but you've employ them as much as anybody.

PS, calling it a false dichotomy is a rebuttal.

Whatever Trump is for, they will be against. Whatever he is against, they will be for. They are as mentally lazy as the anti-Trumpers on this board. Heck, there is a self-described libertarian on here that is FOR government controlled health care and keeping troops deployed because Trump holds a different view. These people are looking for a hero to worship, not policy.

Trump should come out for increased welfare spending, socialized medicine, open borders and increased taxes. This should make the dem leadership (and some on this board) raving border control nuts and fiscal hawks.
