Legal interpretation is “what does this law mean?” That is not an issue here.

The objection to Congress’s subpoena power is in complete bad faith. A similar objection raised over the same privilege asserted to keep McGahn from testifying (in a non impeachment matter) has always been flatly rejected in federal court. In an impeachment context, there is literally no legitimate basis to think Trump doesn’t have to comply under the law.

It certainly is an issue here.

This whole mess has been an issue. If the government can spy on its’ own and spy on a president or get congressmen’s phone records without proper execution, what is stopping them from doing the same to us peons and leaving no recourse for citizens. I’m concerned about the illegality of lots of this from probably March 2016 forward.

Except that Maxine Waters is not being sworn in as a juror.

Graham said “I am not pretending to be a fair juror here”, which begs the question of how he can take the oath that says just that.

Likewise, McConnell said “I am not an impartial juror.”

If they are unwilling to allow witnesses at the trial, they will be breaching their oath of office and therefore the Constitution.

Just heard tonight that no senator has ever voted to convict a president of their party in an impeachment trial.

Johnson was a democrat. All nine democrats voted not guilty for the three articles.
Clinton was a democrat. All 45 democrats voted not guilty for the two articles.

Johnson was saved by some republicans voting not guilty. The threshold for conviction was 36; and all votes were 35-19.
Clinton was never going to be convicted. Needed 67, got 45 and 50 (all republicans), respectively.

I think what those and this one is showing is that there needs to real wrong-doing and harm, not something that's up to interpretation. Some people will rally-around-the-flag no matter what, so its a matter of targeting everyone not like that. Despite whatever tribal airs some put on, there are millions more of the later than there are of the former.

Well, a subpoena isn’t spying. It is a document executed by one of authority requiring that you show up and testify or bring documents. It isn’t done without you knowing.
