Maybe. He also said, on a scale of 1 to 10, his response to COVID 19 was a 10.

And that the buck doesn’t stop with him. But that was never going to change.

Also, interesting that Trump is asking the governors to be the ones to lead on the crowd restrictions and shutting down of bars and restaurants.

He said that, but he also openly disagreed with Nunez and the OK governor who were encouraging people who felt ok to go to restaurants.

Of course many Trump supporters are now complaining that JBE did what Trump wants him to do.

Friday, JBE did what CDC was recommending. That's what he said in his announcement.

Trump has been everywhere on this and I believe he is treating the entire nation like a densely populated area.I don't agree with that, but he has his nuts in a vise like no other president since Truman.

The CDC recommendations are all about densely populated areas. Shutting down all the eating spots in Ruston and West Monroe is over the top. Shutting them down in Baton Rouge and New Orleans is somewhat reasonable, but it should still be choice not a mandate.

So, are we still on the same trajectory as Italy? They have nearly 2200 who have died. Am I to understand that we will reach that number in 10-11 days? Or will we only reach that number if we don’t shut everything down the way it has already been done?

Italy had 1700 cases and 34 deaths 2 weeks ago.

That is how exponential spread works and then you get the increased mortality because you exceed your hospital surge capacity.

We will see if we did enough and we were not too late in 10 days.

    Darwinism!

An associate who posts a lot on a FB blog I follow says we should allow/cause every American to catch Covid-19 and those who survive, do, those who don't...don't. But since we are told mostly those already with EXPENSIVE medical conditions, especially the elderly, are most likely to perish...so, well? Just think what this purge would do for our spiraling healthcare costs!

I "know" this fellow via his posts and his commentary over several years. And while it appears his comment was offered TIC...I'm not so sure it wasn't offered with some seriousness.

“We have the same number of cases that Italy had two weeks ago. We have a choice to make," US Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams said. "Do we want to really lean into social distancing and mitigation strategies and flatten the curve or do we just want to keep going on with business as usual and end up being Italy?"

It is helpful that this administration and FoxNews has finally flipped their script. A little honesty, sooner, would have been better. Unfortunately, the conspiracy theories of “over-reaction”, “hoax”, “only happens in socialist countries” has emboldened some Americans not to take this seriously and not follow the social distancing guidelines. We all need to reach out to those in our networks that may still not be taking this seriously and encourage them to do so.

Just think how bad it would’ve been with a Democrat as president. They all criticized Trump for prohibiting travel from China when he did.

The testing issue would have been an issue no matter who was president. The CDC bungled that.

Trump’s biggest mistakes were some of his initial comments. They were iill advised.

Actually, the only thing we know about a Democrat is that they wouldn’t have disbanded the pandemic response team that Trump got rid of in 2018. A Democrat president would probably follow the advice of the pandemic response team, whatever that was, including restricting travel if that was the recommended approach.

Restricting the travel may have delayed some of the “seeding” of the virus, but we pissed away so much time that we should have been testing and appropriately mitigating the spread of the disease that was already on our shores or inevitably going to make it here.

That was part of the problem - Trump treated a travel ban as a panacea. It wasn’t. He did it and basically moved on. The panic we saw from his office last week, should have happened the same week he restricted travel. It should have been all hands on deck then. Time that he bought with the travel restriction was squandered.

And don’t forget that Trump appointed the people leading HHS (Azar) and the CDC (Redfield). The incompetence of the response also lies with them. Both are incompetent and shouldn’t be in those roles but they support controversial ideas that have support in the darker corners of conservatism.

    Re: Covid - 19

It needs to be posted again, since those suffering from TDS are off their meds daily...

President Trump offered to send a team of US doctors/response team to Wuhan, China to provide assistance and possibly contain it there. That was in November. The Chicoms refused entry of that team. Now, some American doctors did visit Wuhan as part of an international team, and one of them a Dr. Pitkin says the Chicoms totally bungled this and lied to the world...that is certainly no revelation given they are commie bastards. Trump then issued the travel ban from China, a move roundly criticized as xenophobic by the friends of Goosey et al. That travel ban is now credited with preventing a worse outbreak in the US.

Whatever could have been done differently is water under the bridge now. But, let's see how we handle planning for the future. We KNOW the Dems want open borders with no defensive measures at all. So that anyone from anywhere in the world, carrying who knows what, can bring in all kinds of nasty bugs. I don't think that is a very good idea. We already are having to deal with all kinds of infections, such as TB, at rates we haven't seen in the US in many decades.

Can such a virus outbreak like this one originate here in the US, among American citizens? I suppose anything is possible. But heretofore all of these horrible viruses started elsewhere...I think it is prudent we protect ourselves from such viruses being brought here. Yes, that will mean some kind of sensible testing/quarantine procedure for US citizens returning home from travel, especially from high-risk regions. The "new normal" wrought by terrorism is high security at airports. Well...

That part seems counter intuitive to me. Seems like if we peak in a month it will be because the social distancing didn't work and the virus continued to spread exponentially. I guess the good news is we would have it over with sooner and could get back to normal.

If the cases peak in 3 months that seems like that would be a "flattening of the curve" and we would have successfully delayed the worst of the outbreak until we had more time to prepare. On the other hand our supply chain would be devastated by three months of the social distancing precautions. Not sure which is worse.
