Yeah, there is so much confusion right now about what we can and can't do, whether it is better to lay off employees and let them claim unemployment or try to pay them and hope to get some sort of reimbursement/ tax credit later. It's amazing how much data can be generated from a hyperactive, and highly-imaginative mind...all rooted in very, very, very little real information. Of course you are giddily accepting as 100% factual this one fellow's doomsday scenario because it fits your anti-American, destroy the USA at any costs, agenda.
I, and others like me, are reasonably cautious, open-minded to taking prudent steps. It's a risk vs. gain analysis. For instance, what is the risk of hunkering down at home, avoiding as much human contact as possible and riding this out vs. throwing caution to the wind? If it turns out to be "much ado about nothing" I would have lost practically nothing...a little income on the side, but would have spent 24/7 with my granddaughter! Priceless. If it turns out to be a truly highly contagious/deadly disease then such steps would have proven to be prudent.
As for Covid-19 we still don't know exactly what it is we don't know. Scientists around the world, the best we have to offer, are working around the clock trying to figure this thing out. There has been some "hopeful" news and yes, I trust medical science to ultimately kick this virus in the azz. I still hope and pray it will prove that we (the world) has over-reacted (to which I will say, good, glad it wasn't as bad as we thought). Not that we don't already know it is not something to trifle with.

Nor am I accepting anything as certain, but I do understand how the law of large numbers works and I put more confidence in data than I do what our politicians say.

You have imagined my state of mind, and your imagined version of my mind is not the same as reality.
I have serious concerns for the thousands of small businesses and their contractor/employees that will be put through economic stress (some of which could have been prevented), the health and lives of those that will suffer (some of which could gave been prevented) and the overall psychological impact the overwhelming of our health care system will have on those that work on the front lines and those that need to use it (again, some of which could have been prevented).
See, this is what happens when you put an incompetent post-turtle in charge of a nation just because you think you want disruption. Well, disruption of a complex system causes a lot of disfunction. And when you put someone in charge that views all information in terms of “how does this fact make me look” you get a recipe for disaster.
This isn’t TDS. This is just life experience.
