But couldn't it put them on the path to citizenship? If they become a Legal (or Lawful) Permanent Residency and meet requirements they could then apply for citizenship.

Sure. Easier to get to citizenship via LPR than from their current status (of "none"). They could maybe close that door if they wanted to in the regulations governing the proposal.

    But. . .

If you steal something and then go to jail and then later apply for and receive a job, is the job a "reward for stealing?"

The jail time is the consequence of the theft. After that, you're square.

If you get a speeding ticket, you pay the ticket, after that you're free to drive around.

The idea here is that it's just possible for there to be other punishments/consequences for not holding a valid immigration status other than deportation (which at the very least has some practical limitations). So the proposal is instead of deportation (or jail time, or the chair, or whipping with a wet noodle, or a spanking, or being grounded from your phone) we could apply a fine. We fine people for other types of things (like speeding tickets). I guess you could try continual fines, but in this case (and obviously in line with their other motivating factors other than just punishment) they're also including a way forward to legal residence.

It's got Champ967's approval, what more could you want?

Criminal activity...worse! wanton invasion by foreign nationals coming here for their own gain and to do harm to America...should not be rewarded. DEPORTATION for all illegals! Period!

I honestly don't have an issue with path to citizenship for illegal immigrants. I just feel the border needs to be secured first. Otherwise you are incentivizing illegal immigration.

I think the EIT includes tighter border security in their proposal as well.

If you reward illegals with a path to citizenship you WILL incentivize illegal immigration. No matter how well we build the wall and take other measures there will always be some illegals, even if it's just expired visas cases. Nope! What we need is a show of force and make sure it gets plenty of media coverage of our troops escorting illegals to the border, and slamming the door, in our wall, behind them. ZERO TOLERANCE!

Oh, and don't fool yourself with the supposed....oh, they are just poor, poverty-stricken oppressed folks from shit hole countries! They are not. First of all, there are no "shit hole" countries! Remember how everyone said so when Trump made that reference. They are all wonderful countries that anyone would be thrilled to live in. Next, these illegals have money to start with and are further bankrolled by George Soros et al. Don't buy into the bullshit.

But “incentivizing illegal immigration” is what Obama/Biden and the no borders Dems are all about. It’s terribly unAmerican, unconstitutional and just plain wrong and dangerous to the American people. And it’s all for the sake of votes and power. Sickening!

So, do we make all the illegals pay back taxes, as a part of their path to citizenship, on cash income earned while they were here illegally?

You realize they already pay taxes, right?

And proof that they were paying taxes was always a requirement under DACA as well.

    Re: Immigration

I still have trouble understanding how anyone can support ILLEGAL immigration. What is it about this criminal activity that is so attractive?

As has been stated about a gazillion times we are a nation of immigrants. Both sides of my family came here as immigrants, my dad's side from Ireland in the 1880's and my mom's side from Sicily in the early 1900's. But they all came LEGALLY!!! There is no problem with LEGAL immigration even today. If you're like me you have a lot of friends, associates (business associates too), acquaintances, neighbors who are fairly recent LEGAL immigrants and most now US citizens. They all did it right. Why do you illegal advocates spit in the face of those who followed our laws and who did it the right way?

BTW, my mix of such folks include those from Europe (Spain, Germany, Greece, Belgium...that I know of for sure), from Asia (China, South Korea, and Japan...that I know of), from the Middle East (Jordan, UAE...that I know of), from Central America (Panama, Honduras...), from South America, (Columbia, Brazil...) and from North America, (Mexico, Canada, California*). All here LEGALLY and with whom I have ZERO issue with. *yes, even the persons from California!

I know why the libs, led by the DNC, push for illegal immigration, it's all to increase their voting base to enrich themselves. But why the average American advocates for criminals is beyond me.

    Re: Immigration

No one is pushing for illegal immigration. Some are trying to find a more humane solution to the problems caused by a broken immigration system, and for people that were brought into this country by no fault of their own, who have done nothing wrong - except continue to exist - in the only world they have ever known. Folks that have gone to school, worked, paid their taxes, who want to be Americans.
