    Bump. You paying attention, techman05.

With the early reopening, I still think we will see 100k deaths due to COVID. Unfortunately, we still don’t have adequate testing to squash the inevitable outbreaks very early. With many conservatives being unwilling to abide by suggestions to wear masks and rejecting the idea of contact tracing, we are getting further, not closer, to the end of this.

If we could all just cooperate for a little bit longer, we could get back to life as normal sooner.

    Re: Covid - 19

I don't know the "real truth." Nobody does. Everyone is flying by the seat of their pants, no instruments, in a cloud bank. Perhaps if the Chicoms had played nice, way back in November into early December and cooperated with us, and the other nations offering to help back then, we'd be on top of this thing. And, eventually, we will. Just like medical science can tell us all we need to know about the 2009-10 Swine Flu pandemic (it swept thru multiple countries), given time, we will know about C-19 too. For now, medical science is doing the best it can to follow the bouncing ball. As a novel virus it has been mutating rapidly. At some point it will become a mature virus and settle into a stable RNA make-up. But, HIV and SARS are considered mature and stable, and while there are treatments for both, there is still no vaccine for either. And C-19 is a corona virus in the same general line as HIV and SARS. In fact, as I have posted, some scientists refer to it as SARS II.

We also don't know much about its true nature as it relates to the measures taken. I have posted before about folks, and organizations, who have 100% totally ignored all the edicts made and are still this very day conducting their lives, and in some cases, their businesses as if it was October, 2019 (pre-C-19). One such is a local car dealership. Just about EVERY day, including yesterday, they proudly post pics of happy customers standing right next to a salesperson, and the car sold, no masks, no 6-foot distancing, and sometimes there are as many as 5 or 6 people in the picture. How they have avoided the C-19 Nazi Gestapo shutting them down is beyond me. Hell! the Natch Police Chief was present himself when they shut down Chick-Fil-a last week, issuing a citation to the manager. How is that different than the car dealership?

Point is, if C-19 is as contagious as some claim (and again, IDK) why hasn't just one of these crazy folks come down with it and gotten sick? One group of the same idiots were having a pool party yesterday, no less than 25-30 people, including 8-10 kids, were crowded under a carport, all in very close proximity, sharing food, hugging on each other. Drunk of course....we were heading out of the neighborhood and they waved at us. I'm just asking. Part of the scientific method is observation. Well...I have been observing this behavior from a core group of party animals, with a mix of new folks coming and going, during this whole several month crisis. One would think with such reckless behavior and blatant violation of all the mitigation measures called for, that at least one of those idiots would turn up sick. Maybe the secret is to have "some blood in your alcohol" sweeping thru your veins. Alcohol is a disinfectant and kills viruses. Get roaring drunk and you're safe!

For me, and mine, we are trying to go thru our daily routine, as much as possible, and employ some sensible precautions. Masks, hand sanitizer, distancing...common sense measures. And pretty much business as usual. Which reminds me, I have THREE jobs going on right now at three separate properties and between the contractors and their charges, and sub-contractors, there has been a lot of close proximity and only minimal use of masks and such. All of them are rocking on, no issues.

    Still...I keep an open mind.

A stable DNA makeup? It is an RNA virus (single strand).

Your young rebel rousing neighbors might be asymptomatic carriers, or maybe they only party in the same social bubble. Or maybe they are just lucky that one of them hasn’t been exposed outside of the group yet. If everyone were to behave this way, it would spread very rapidly - like it did in NYC or NOLA before lockdowns.

But I agree, masks, spacing and hand washing are sensible precautions of little sacrifice. It makes no sense not to do them. I don’t understand if people are trying to make a political statement or their personality by not doing these things in the face of experts suggestion to do them.

Trump should take the black vote by a landslide in Ruston. You keeping speaking as though its only conservatives (i.e., ?) not wearing mask. Could you let me know how you spot a conservative? Oh, there the white people not wearing masks, go it.

If you want to complain about people not wearing masks, that's fine. Just don't try to imply that its only conservatives not doing it.

Take into account this is third hand knowledge, heard it from friend, who heard it from a friend, etc.

A small firm in northern Louisiana paid to have their employees tested for the anti-body. Twelve were tested and nine had the antibody. None of the nine had been sick.

It is the conservatives on this board that seem to draw pride in not wearing them or criticize the utility of wearing them.

I don’t understand why. Why are folks so resistant? Is it political?

I hope...any sensible, decent human being would hope...that C-19 is VERY widespread already and is simply not as lethal as previously feared. I've read articles where it is said the virus was present in California, and other places, way back in mid-December and perhaps even earlier...and no one knew it because it is mostly harmless. Again, that is great news, if true.

I also posted months ago that I hoped/prayed we'd look back on this mess and say we were overly cautious. That beats the alternative. Now, that said, given human nature, there is an inherent danger in that. The old "boy who cried wolf" syndrome. Years down the road another viral outbreak may occur and medical science declare it very lethal, etc...and folks will say, that's what you said about C-19 and it turned out not so bad. Go away and shut up!

Has the company been operating from an office during the lockdown?

Good question; however, I don't know the answer. Their area of business is considered an essential service but I don't think they have to require everyone to be there. I'll update if I get any additional information.

That is a high percentage of people to have the antibody (higher than NYC by a large margin) which suggests to me that these workers likely gave it to one another or all got it from a common source.

Agreed. Though I do find it interesting that none of them reported having symptoms (or if they did they were mild enough that they didn't raise concern). I know one of the guys is near 70 but don't know the ages of the others. J

Would be nice if they'd now trace it back to their families to see if they also have the antibody.
