Went 95 yards in less than a minute to pull it out 35-34.

Last night our mediocre defense got gouged! Did have one unlucky turnover that set them up for an easy TD, but other than that, C-BR ran all over us. Since Division I was created, beginning with the 2013 season, there hasn't been a repeat champion. Well...

I think C-BR will beat Bro. Martin and the Byrd-Curtis game will be a close one, but I give the edge to Byrd. C-BR vs. Byrd in the Dome. Will be a great game. Two programs/schools I have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for. Win or lose, both schools have pure class fanbases. Have had the pleasure of speaking with fans of both several times over the years.
Wonder why we did not at least offer this defender. It appears he can play.

Fields led Rummel in tackles last year as a junior, was all-district, and was one of just two returning starters on defense this year. He was a beast all year. Tech does not appear to recruit New Orleans very much. Tons of talent goes out of state, and sometimes to FCS schools in-state, and that player could have been contributor at the FBS level. Of course, not every kid is FBS-quality and many belong at the FCS level. I am talking about N.O. and the surrounding area as a whole.

A shame this guy gets out of state to Memphis. He could have play along our HC player. Could have tried for an all Catholic League linebacking corp.

Just heard the state finals are going your way. What a shame, all those kids opportunity to play in the dome gone for this year.

I plan to be in Turpin for the Byrd-Catholic-BR game. Should be a good one. I give the edge to C-BR. Byrd is very good, and certainly capable of winning, but a lot will have to go right for the Jackets.

    C-BR 34 Byrd 21

I have no dog in this fight, and don't care who wins. This is just my prediction based on what I know about the teams.

On the sideline Friday night the West Monroe principal asked how I was enjoying shooting in the rain.
I thought back to the Delaware-Tech 1-AA playoff game played at The Joe over a risen Pugh's Creek drainage valley.

"Play this downpour on a grass field and I'd be estatic." He looked at me confusingly as we stood among West Monroe's pristine, yet damp, facilities at The Don.

I love football pics taken of games played in the mud, I told him.

Guess I'll get my chance this week as rain is forecast most of the week in Alexandria, with the Rebels playing ASH Friday at their cow pasture.

C-BR's star RB Singleton went out in the 1st half of the Martin game with a banged-up knee. He was on crutches on the sideline. Not sure how serious it is. It is two weeks until the championship game, so maybe he'll be back. He is something special.

Oh yes, that lousy 17-0 loss to "Michigan." Well, they looked like Michigan. I was there. But, the worst rain storm I remember was the 26-19 loss to USM and Brett Farve, the infamous "Rain Bowl."

The Byrd vs Catholic-BR game is completely sold out. Tickets are available for the other games. There is limited seating because of the virus protocols, but shows where the interest is. Division I is the elite classification in the state. It's a shame that more of the public schools with awesome programs: Acadiana, West Monroe, and some others, 5A and some of the 4A schools, like Karr, Neville, aren't part of it. I would LOVE to see a true, separate, ELITE organization and playoff of the very best programs in the state. Won't happen...but I would welcome it.
