I meant to say ‘he didn’t play much of a part in it...’
I will acknowledge that i haven't read a single post in this thread so it may have already been covered ad nauseum... Will Skip ever start playing to win and not just coach not to lose?!?
This should be the final straw for Skip. He has to go... We need to get someone in that knows how to take us to the next level. Even in the good years that he has had, we couldn't win a championship. I am happy for all the bowl victories, but the last two years are showing what we are now. New blood is needed. I will add that Skip is one of the nicest guys we have had as coach. He just isn't getting it done. ODU hasn't beaten an FBS team in 3 years. We have regressed, not improved with each game. It is time!
Stop the BS, please. That crap is old and totally wrong, anyway.
Now, Guice is in a place where the NEAR future of Tech Football is in his hands. But, puhleeze! No way is any sport "destroyed forever." Coaches come and go, programs have peaks and valleys, and the world goes on.
I think after a 5th consecutive loss vs. UAB, Skip will struggle to produce much of anything the rest of the season.
Maybe they beat the hapless Eagles, maybe not.
The issue is already I am hearing the "rebuilding year, reset year mantra" from the talking heads. Skip needs more time. We are too accustomed to winning. He's got to have longer to get his system in place. Seriously. The call in show was all pro Skip last night. BC even said we don't want to get a reputation as being "elitist" by firing a coach their first bad year.
As much as we complain, nothing will change.
Skip is NOT going anywhere unless he steps down of his own free will.
You may be right, or without miraculous effort from Guice-Wood it may be worse. No leadership, no coach, no conference, new transfer out options, recruiting questions: for us guys now in our 70s it may be over: forever.
But what a ride!! Mickey Slaughter in the 50s, Bradshaw in the 60s, Duron in the &70s, Malone and Barmore in the 80s, Rattay in the 90s, whipping Fresno repeatedly in the 2000s, big wins under Dikes and 6 bowl WINS in the 2010s: been one heckuva ride!! I wouldn't have missed for the world. Even if now sucks!
If Skippy was fine, Tech wins at least one of the three games (Mississippi State, SMU, and North Carolina State) without any question and probably wins at least two of them. Those losses weren't the result of a bad bounce here or there. They were a direct result of bad coaching decisions and poor execution directly related to poor coaching.
The fact that Tech lost all three of those plus ODU fits right in with Skippy's history as an FBS coach as documented in the Skippy Special thread. It's no coincidence that his teams at USF and Tech have lost 22 games (in just 147 coached) after having a 4th quarter lead. That's compared to winning just 8 games after being behind in the 4th quarter.
