What about gaining "Market" do you people NOT understand? The AAC could not have sent a clearer message. By jilting Tech last month they essentially said, "Get a phucking market, or forget about joining the AAC". Comments like the one written above sound like something hillbillies say. GET a CLUE PEOPLE. I'm seeing gripes and complaints about everything that's unimportant, and hardly any of you acknowledge the need to claim the 400K Shreveport-Bossier market as LA Tech's.
We can use Shreveport to showcase Ruston if we have proper control of the gameday experience. Show off our campus and athletic facilities on their video board and with booths around the stadium. Maybe get them to run a few Ruston business ads.
Give them a game, show them what we have in Ruston at the game. Try to get them to want to come to Ruston.
I disagree! We need to have a BIG game there every year, NOT every OTHER year. Let's face it, a lot of you on this board are comfortable with playing games in Ruston because you don't have to drive very far but to entice the Shreveport market we have to do something different. The Joe as much as I like watching a game their is not a venue large enough to entertain a big market game! We as a program have to include big draws and the Joe ain't it.
eagle2180 TOTALLY MISSED THE POINT about MARKETS. He apparently doesn't realize that you can seat 27K in Ruston for every game, and it still won't solve our "MARKET" problem. The AAC wants teams with MARKETS. They told us that, and they made it clear with their recent realignment choices. eagle2180's attitude is exactly what works against us.
Honestly, when I see posts like the one above, it makes me question the intelligence of our fan base. Is it really any wonder that LA Tech got passed over by the AAC and left behind with FIU and UTEP?
Would you guys say we could accurately"claim" the Shreveport market back when we played there more often?
If the AAC would have been convinced we owned that market in 2012 or 2004 or 1997 or whatever, then sure - see what you can do there.
But I still think the trick is getting this big draw of a game to begin with. It takes two to tango. And when we played Tulsa in Shreveport that was very much a lesson in what not to do.
If you can get an A&M home game, fine. Play in Indy. But good luck scheduling that game.
