The Joe as much as I like watching a game their is not a venue large enough to entertain a big market game! We as a program have to include big draws and the Joe ain't it.
We don't host a big game every year.

Who do you want to play in Shreveport? New Mexico State?

Really inudesu? Oh hell no! NMSU we play in Ruston. I'm talking about a TAMU, Texas Tech, O'Miss, Arkansas. et al.

Honestly, when I see posts like the one above, it makes me question the intelligence of our fan base. Is it really any wonder that LA Tech got passed over by the AAC and left behind with FIU and UTEP?
I was at the Maryland Independence Bowl in 1990 with an attendance of 48,000. I was at Tech vs A&M in 2012 with about the same attendance. If you want to consider them as part of your market shouldn’t you be able to fill your home stadium on a regular basis? We don’t, never have.

Games where we do a one for one and the game is played in Shreveport because of the venue!

No. Attendance is a completely separate issue. It's important for LA Tech and fans like me and you, but not for the AAC and what we're talking about here. The "MARKET" issue that the AAC is pressing has to do with the number of TV sets in any given viewer market. They don't care if Tech sells out all home games or not, as long as they have a large market of TV sets to hopefully pitch to the TV Networks for contract purposes. Conferences like the AAC want to be able to sit down with ESPN or FOX Sports and talk about the high number of potential TV viewers due to the large number of TV sets they have in any given market. And the conference TV contracts are finally negotiated based on the number of TV sets included in the conference footprint.

This is why LA Tech needs the Shreveport-Bossier "TV" Market. By playing a game in Shreveport on a regular basis, it will be almost impossible for the AAC to claim the Shreveport-Bossier market does not belong to LA Tech.

How do you think low attendance schools such as Tulane, Tulsa, SMU --and more recently-- UAB, Rice, and UNC-Charlotte received invites to the AAC? It certainly wasn't because they were filling up the stands at home. Rather, it was because they all have BIG media markets with a lot of TV sets, henceforth a lot of potential TV viewers. And the AAC can exploit that to get a better TV contract the next time they sit down with the networks.

Some of you on this board that are so adamant that if we don't do a home and home with some of the power 5/larger programs at the Joe is unacceptable, need to get a grip. If I'm a Florida State or University X, why in the world would I want to play at the Joe with a max 23K seats where lodging accommodations suck in Ruston and the airline arrangement suck even more...REALLY!

To be clear here, you're saying that these schools would be willing to play us in a one for one series so long as we played it in Shreveport?

Because they're all just dying to play an away game in Shreveport instead of two games against G5 schools in their own home stadiums?

And we're to do that every year?

    I. . . guess I just don't think that's realistic.

What is the demographic of the college football fan? How many TV sets between Ouachita Parish and Harrison County? How many are La Tech fans and fit the demographic of ESPN and Fox Sports?

Does an occasional game in Independence Stadium do that for us? Does an annual game in Shreveport do that for us?

Has it ever done so before?

None of your questions matter. The AAC wants to see the TOTAL NUMBER OF TV SETS in any given market. Obviously, there are many more TV sets in LA Tech's market when the Shreveport-Bossier metro market is included. That's really all you need to know.

If you have a small market like La Tech even if you include Monroe and Shreveport, you have to draw a large percentage of TV’s and butts in the seats. We don’t draw either. I spent Thanksgiving day with 4 Tech alumni in Shreveport and had to inform them of what was going on at La Tech. They all graduated from 1992-1996.
