Russia will be barred from Eurovision over its widely condemned invasion of Ukraine.

Organizers for the Eurovision Song Contest announced the decision on Friday, saying that “in light of the unprecedented crisis in Ukraine, the inclusion of a Russian entry in this year’s Contest would bring the competition into disrepute.”

“We remain dedicated to protecting the values of a cultural competition which promotes international exchange and understanding, brings audiences together, celebrates diversity through music and unites Europe on one stage,” a statement from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the contest’s governing body, said.

The decision to bar Russia from this year’s Eurovision — poised to be held in Italy in May — appears to be a reversal for the annual spectacle, which features entertainers representing 40 mostly European countries going head-to-head in the popular televised event.

No Russian ever tried to enact apartheid on me for not bowing to a biomedical security state. Putin wasn't the one who sent my friends into a 20 year war over nothing in the desert. Putin didn't steal my hard-earned money and then use it to fly rainbow flags in Kabul or send billions of dollars to apartheid states.
