So much for Sleepy's big plan to crash the Russian economy.

Hearing from a few places that Azov has been destroyed. Waiting for confirmation but good riddance if so.
Initial reports were too optimistic. The Nazis fight on.
I am cheering against the Azov Nazis. Their destruction would be a good thing and I cannot imagine the bizarre warhawk mindset necessary to support them in any way. In fact, if I were a Ukrainian general I might see the siege of Azovstal as a good opportunity to rid my army of an international embarrassment.
I resist binary thinking. I can support my friends in Ukraine, pray for their safety and independence, and at the same time desire their deliverance from being used as a playground for American globalist proxy wars and Nazi militias.
I reject attempts to cast a complicated conflict (for which our leaders bear a substantial amount of guilt) as "Putin is a crazy senile madman who is genociding Ukraine!" That is simply not true. Putin wants to incorporate the Donbass into Russia (announced recently) and hold Crimea and Mariupol (and possibly Odessa) as Black Sea ports. We need to understand these aims if we are to rightly condemn an invasion to accomplish them.
We don't need to "understand" any naked aggression, because doing so lends it credibility. Putin is wrong...period!
This same "we need to understand" bullshit can apply to the Chicoms' desire to invade Taiwan. We all know and "understand" they want to seize Taiwan and absorb those currently free people into their evil empire. But no right-thinking person would allow even one iota of credibility be afforded to their claim. I suppose Blue Dawg wants us to "understand" the Mexican drug cartels' desire to get rich. Yeah, we get it, the cartels want to sell as much of their drugs as possible. But, that doesn't mean we have to bend to this "understanding."
There are some really sick and delusional people...
Actually, what I am trying to say is, we shouldn't, don't need to EXCUSE it! That spells it out clearer, I think.
Russians are acting like ranked amateurs. They send in a lone T-90 tank, their latest and best tank, supported by a couple of T-72s and a squad of soldiers and expect a single tank is going to make a difference? Worse! the goofy Ruskies spent a week in propaganda and advertising the deployment of the T-90, like Oh boy! you Ukrainians are doomed now. Naturally the Ukrainians accepted the challenge and in less than a week the T-90 was hunted down and destroyed, by an American-made Javelin rocket.![]()
Remember, Russia is also fighting the US here. 80 said as much above. Ukraine has US missiles, US intel, US training, everything but actual American troops on the ground (and who knows about that, really?)
This war is not about Ukraine. This war is a "discussion" about whether the US is able to hold its puppet states. Which is why the warhawks are trying so hard to get us into it physically, not just as a proxy. Who knows which of our "special military operations" Russia might target next if the Ukraine war is a Russian victory?
I would never advocate that Ukraine surrender just because the outcome is more or less a foregone conclusion. Lee surrendered at Appomattox because he determined that losing the war was preferable than a long protracted grind. If he could have seen the horrors of Reconstruction he may have reconsidered.
First, about Lee...
many of his subordinates asked him, perhaps it is accurate to say "begged" him, to allow the army to disperse when they reached Appomattox and then have it regather and/or form partisan bands of guerillas. Lee saw no honor in that and also, he expressed doubt it would ultimately be successful. If some of the officers and enough men had done so anyway Lee would have neither condoned nor condemned their actions, their choice. But the officers knew without Lee's leadership, his presence, it would be a half-hearted effort at best. Instead, Lee addressed his men, apologized for what he deemed to be a failure on his part, not theirs, and encouraged them to return home and rebuild their lives, parting with, "if you make half as good as citizens as you did as soldiers you will do very well."
I will have to re-read some stuff on Lee's comments about Reconstruction, but he died in 1870, and did not live to see the worst of it in the years to come. Between '65 and '70 he busied himself serving as president of Washington College, now Washington & Lee University, and trying to help young men get a good education and begin a new life. Lee did not invent the concept of a "scholarship," but he perfected it and what we think of today as a 'ship is Lee's design he implemented at Washington College.
And back to Russia...
I strongly support our support of Ukraine in any way, and in every way possible short of us putting our folks in harm's way. Putin is a bully, a scoundrel, a dangerous monster who needs to be stopped and then taken out.
Appears Putin has lost another ship in the Black Sea, a frigate, taken out by a Ukrainian drone strike. Also, confirmed, the Russkies had two patrol boats destroyed/sunk by drone strikes.
This war is a showcase of modern weapons vs. traditional weapons and convention. Read a piece by a US Marine war-planner which reaffirms the reason the Marines decided to do away with tanks. They are easy targets and death traps for the crews. Problem is while it is possible to put enough armor on some of the tank, like the front, it is impossible to do so on the entire vehicle. Mines blow up under the tanks, destroying them, and now drones can target weak spots like the top and rear. The Ukrainians destroyed the vaunted T-90 tank by hitting it in the side with a Javelin rocket, fired from more than a mile away by a two-man Javelin team. Bam! it is that easy.
And now the loss of the two ships to drone strikes shows how vulnerable warships are. Again, it is impossible to put enough armor on the entire ship to fully protect it. A well-placed missile hit strikes a vulnerable part of the ship and it's adios amigos. I suppose the future of warfare will resemble video games, soldiers sitting in front of screens with an X Box controller in their hands...okay, maybe not an X Box...and attacking enemy targets. Future navies will be remote controlled "carriers" loaded with drones, no crews.
This could be a good thing. Much like nukes serve as a deterrent to rogue maniacs attacking the world "just because" so too might this technology place in the hands of every nation a means to defend itself against the Putins and Chicoms of the world. Oh well! looks like everyone will just have to behave themselves and let's have some WORLD PEACE!
