Despite an over-whelming advantage in assets the Russian Black Sea fleet has been fought to a stalemate by the out-manned Ukrainians, thanks mostly to the Neptune and Harpoon anti-ship missiles in the hands of the defenders. The US has supplied the Harpoon missiles to Ukraine. Putin fired the admiral in command of the fleet, but the new commander has not tried his luck yet. To undertake the landing at Odessa, as Putin has demanded, requires Russian ships to enter the shallow waters in the bay by staying in the channels, making them easy targets for the anti-ship missiles. The Ukrainians have placed missile batteries on the coast, all targeting the ship channels. The Russkies may be dumb, but they ain't stupid and suicidal...
My ship (USS Lockwood DE-1064) was the first ship ever to fire the Harpoon anti-ship missile in 1973. We were testing it off the coast of California. That's her picture in my avatar.

    Re: Russia

Ukraine launched a surprise offensive encircling the city of Karkhiv and trapping the Russian garrison, estimated to be about 10,000 soldiers. The day before, the Russian garrison of a smaller town nearby, surrendered without hardly firing a shot. That unit numbered about 1,000 soldiers.

The Ukrainians are attacking the bridges that link Crimea to southern Ukraine. Critical supplies, ammo, and reinforcements are dependent on those bridges. So far, while damaged, the bridges still stand and remain operational. If the Ukrans can sever that link the Russkies on Crimea will be cut off, isolated. The Russian navy has been unwilling or incapable of delivering relief as several supply ships have been attacked by Ukran drones and the ships withdrew.

    Putin is losing this war.

Social media and Youtube adds a different dimension to war. It's strange to watch video of combat, people dying, even if it is dastardly Russkies and some guy narrating and asking "If you like videos like this and want to see more, please subscribe to my channel. Thanks, and have a great day!"

    Re: Russia

Top Russian general captured! Lt. General Andrey Sychevoi, commander of the West Group, was taken prisoner near Kharkiv, region of the Ukran offensive. If the Russkies organize their forces like most nations do, then a "group" is a collection of armies, as in "Army Group West." This could be many hundreds of thousands of troops, not that the Russkies have committed that many to the war in Ukraine, but it shows the level of responsibility for General Sychevoi. That's a BIG FISH!

In a related matter, a Russian colonel's communication back to his HQ in Russia reveals that Russkie equipment is far inferior to that being used by the Ukrans, all of it provided by the US and other NATO countries. This colonel complained it was an "unequal" fight as his men did not have the means to defend themselves against Ukran forces with better artillery, helicopters, and armored vehicles, including tanks. Always thought that Putin's mighty military was really a paper tiger.

And, I suspect that the Chicoms' is even worse. Looks awesome on paper, all those men, tanks, planes, artillery pieces, ships but if the equipment sucks it doesn't matter how many they have.

Putin is losing and Xi would get his ass kicked too.

Now, this concern...would a desperate Putin (and Xi too) resort to using nukes? Of course, it is hoped that those who actually had to deliver nukes would refuse to obey Putin's orders. There is that hope...

    Re: Russia

In the wake of the news coming out of Ukraine the world wants to purchase US-made military equipment. The poorly organized (initially) and inexperienced Ukrans are crushing the mighty bear solely because they are using US-made, and also other NATO countries' equipment.

India's new prime minister, Mode, ordered that India depend on its own domestic military industry to develop and manufacture equipment. As a result, in just 2 years of stopping buying US-made equipment, India's military has been degraded to the world's 8th best (and ready to fight a major war). Such ratings are based on "think tanks" who profess to be experts on such things. It makes sense for India, and other major industrial nations, to have a domestic military industry and develop weapon systems, etc.. but India, especially, is critical to maintaining a balance in the world, checking the evil commie bastards and those who might ally with them. When India's general-in-chief was killed in a helicopter crash a couple of years ago, they lost a true leader. He was responsible for elevating India to a true military power, one that could stand up to China and had India sitting 4th (some pundits had them ranked 3rd) in the world. He embraced India's relationship with the US and the West (India developed a fighter in a joint project with France), and he was official host when President Trump visited. It was this relationship which led to Trump's "Quads" now led mostly by Japan and Australia...since we have puppet moron "in charge."

Anyway, back to Russia and Putin. What has happened in Ukraine is a tragedy, many innocent people killed, hurt, and all with their lives disrupted. But, if anything good can come from it, the world now sees what a joke Russia is, and they are nothing to fear. This also applies to China, the Chicoms rule with an iron-fist and control their media, but the truth is it too is nothing but a paper tiger.

    Re: Russia

Hilarious videos, dubbed with goofy music, are going viral showing Russians retreating in haste. The best shows a Russian tank, with soldiers on it, hurrying down a road, it slows down when it comes into a small village and then realizes those are Ukrainian troops occupying the village. So, it speeds up, swerving all over and shedding those on the tank, then it slams straight into a huge tree, halting the tank. They were all captured.

Oh shoot, the copy/paste of the link didn't work.

Other videos show Ukrainian soldiers using a Russian flag as a rug, wiping their boots on it before entering a building.

    Re: Russia

    Another video...

shows Ukrainian special forces ambushing a Russian personnel carrier, kind of looked like an SUV actually. The vehicle flipped over after being hit with machinegun fire. Then the Ukrans rushed out from the woods, along a highway, and the commander is shouting "Finish them off!" The Ukrans shot the Russians still alive, and then hurried back into cover. The vehicle had just started burning and there were shouts to "get away from it," as it will no doubt explode due to ammo and weapons in it.

    Putin is losing.
