    Re: Russia

The governor of Belgorod, who has not been silent and has been very critical of Putin and the lack of defense of the Russian border, etc...just barely survived an assassination attempt. His car was speeding down a road when a planted bomb went off just a split-second too late to get him. The street has a crater 5 feet deep and 8 feet wide, concrete spread for hundreds of feet. Apparently, someone held a trigger to detonate the bomb and misjudged the speed of the car, just missing.

At first the Russian local media blamed the anti-Putin forces fighting in the region. But as someone pointed out, Putin has routinely murdered those who dare criticize his leadership, so....

    Re: Russia

Confirmed...the Ukrans are sending drones into Moscow hitting random targets of military, police, communist party HQ building, government installations, infrastructure, etc... many of these targets are in or near residential areas. So far none of have hit civilian structures, but of course accidents can happen. Russian citizens are releasing videos of the drones as they pass over head and then videos of the explosions. They narrate the videos all expressing fear, many saying they will leave Moscow for safer places. It is good the average Russian citizen experiences fear, their evil government started a war and have been murdering Ukranian citizens for over 18 months now.

Of course, as all lefties do, Russian officials are crying foul, saying President Z is guilty of criminal conduct for sending drones into Russia. Some NATO officials have quietly criticized Pres. Z as well, telling him they are not supplying weapons for him to attack Russia itself, please confine your attacks to Russian military targets in Ukraine only. Disagree. First, Putin has not been restrained from attacking Ukran civilians, Putin even boasting he would rain terror on the Ukrainian people so they will give up, surrender. Same strategy Hitler tried with his attacks on London. Germany lost the war, when they had a chance to win it, when Hitler ordered the Luftwaffe to attack London rather than British military targets and factories building Spitfires. Secondly, the Ukrans are clearly targeting military and leadership targets. Just last week Putin destroyed a civilian hospital in Ukraine, 24 dead, 200+ injured and now that hospital is gone. No Ukran military personnel were in that hospital.

Glory to Ukraine! Death to all tyrants!

    Re: Russia

The Ukran Chief of Intelligence officer was interviewed, and he said they know exactly where Prigozhin is at any moment, as he does not hide/cower like Putin does. Asked if Prigozhin could be "taken out"? The official shrugged and said, yes, of course, it is certainly possible to do so as long as he out in the open like this. Then asked if it is in Ukraine best interest to try, again the official was purposely vague, but he did hint that they, and NATO, see Prigozhin as a thorn in the side of Putin, and for that reason they prefer to leave him alone for now. Asked about Putin, he said Putin uses a bunch of doubles and disguises his movements really well. Besides, they would prefer for Putin to be arrested and tried for war crimes at The Hague.

I loved Senator Graham's response to Putin's arrest warrant for him. Good stuff!

Mexican TV reports that dozens of U.S. AT-4 weapons systems, which were originally shipped to Ukraine, have been purchased by Cartel Golfo in Mexico.

Folks, I am starting to think our government is corrupt and is taking advantage of our complacent citizens/taxpayers by using Ukraine corruption and faux war to launder money.

    Re: Russia

More spin jobs from both sides, that's been about it the past 36 hours.

The Russians claim to have sunk Ukraine's last remaining navy vessel, a landing ship which can carry and deploy two vehicles, like tanks, and about 80 soldiers. It has a very shallow draft so it can operate along shorelines and in rivers. It was attacked and hit by a jet-launched rocket but sustained only minor damage. Not only did the Ukrans show live video of it, to prove it has not been sunk, but they also revealed two "new" gunboats just commissioned into service. Get this, the boats themselves, the hull and super-structure are actually former German-built WWI torpedo attack boats. Yes, World War 1 crafts. They have been in a military museum since they were decommissioned by Ukraine in the early 1970's. The engines have been completely overhauled, rebuilt, and the boats now sport modern 76mm rapid-fire cannon, 20mm anti-aircraft guns, two twin-barrels, and anti-aircraft rockets and service to service rockets. The boats have a speed of 45 knots...which means they can get out of trouble just as fast as they got into it.

    There ya go!

The Ukrans have had to be inventive and resourceful. Saw a video of two Ukran howitzers firing at the Russkies when a Mercedes SUV, a bright royal blue, a late model, very nice vehicle, drives up, guy opens the hatchback and starts handing shells to the gun crews. Yikes! delivering artillery ammo in a civilian SUV. Whatever it takes, eh.

Also, the Ukrans cleverly invented a rapid moving anti-tank attack vehicle...they took a motorcycle and a sidecar, welded a steel platform between them and mounted an anti-tank rocket launcher to it. Had video of this contrived vehicle speeding down a highway, two soldiers, one on the bike, one in the sidecar, turned into a field. They stopped, jumped to the rocket launcher, fired at a Russian tank, and before even the vapor trail from the rocket could clear, they were mounted and gone. They stopped next to some other Ukran soldiers and about 15 seconds later an artillery shell exploded where they had just been. They laughed at the futility of the enemy gunners.

Just think what the Ukrans will do if/when they have modern military equipment, as promised by NATO.

The Wagner Group is running ads seeking recruits. Pay is about $2,900 USD/month with full benefits, including healthcare. Of course, in this case the healthcare amounts to a medic extracting bullet out of you.

Russian officials wanted to hire Wagner to guard the border since their Border Guard is totally inept. But they were reminded that mercenary organizations are outlawed in Russia and can only operate in foreign countries. Which is fine with one of the bankrollers of Wagner, George Soros.

    Re: Russia

Ukraine's main battle tank is the Soviet-built T-72, while the Russkies have been using their own version of the Soviet-built T-72, and also later tanks, the T-80 and T-92. Yet, in engagement after engagement the Ukrans "older" T-72s have routinely bested the Russians and their newer tanks. How is this possible? Are the Ukrans simply better trained, better tankers? Well, maybe, but there is a much simpler explanation...

The T-72s being used by Ukraine are NOT your father's T-72s.

In 1988 the former Soviet Union shipped thousands of T-72s to Poland, back then a puppet state of the old commie regime. Those tanks mostly sat in warehouses, unused. With the collapse of the Soviet Union and Poland gaining its independence in the early 1990's, the Poles had to fend for themselves. They wanted to buy American and British-made tanks but could not afford them, at least not enough to supply a modern army. So, they turned to their own resources and innovation. The result has been a "T-72" in transition to a modern tank, making it one of the better tanks currently in use. But, this is NOT anywhere close to the original T-72, the kind the Russians are still using (with a few minor upgrades). Instead, this is a monster of a tank, actually nicknamed "Frankenstein's Monster" by a British defense contractor (who builds the Matilda tank) who has been consulting with the Poles in tank development. Now called the PT-91 Twardy, by the poles, this former T-72 is indeed a "monster" of a tank. Sporting 375mm of heavy gauge steel (11+) armor and sloped to deflect shells, it is far superior to most tanks in operation. It also carries a lethal 125mm main gun, a 7.62 machinegun anti-infantry, and a 12.7mm anti-aircraft machinegun. Able to hit a top speed approaching 50mph, with very heavy/durable suspension, it can maneuver quite well over rough terrain. With self-sealing fuel tanks, and extra protection around the 42 main gun shells it can carry, the crew survivability scores very high in tank ratings.

In combat video, shot by drones, every encounter between the Polish-built Twardy and Russian tanks, even their best tank, the T-90, results in a victory for the Ukrans. In one fight, a single Ukran Twardy destroyed 4 Russian tanks, which included a T-90, and three T-72s. The Russian T-90 hung back and the three T-72s attacked the lone Ukran tank, thinking they had him out-numbered. But the Russian shells just glanced off the strong frontal armor, and the powerful 125mm main gun destroyed the three Russian tanks in rapid succession. The T-90 saw what happened and made a huge tactical mistake. Instead of facing the Ukran Twardy in what would have been an even fight, it turned tail and ran. The Ukran tank with its superior speed chased it down and fired a round into the rear, lightly armored, of the T-90. It exploded in a fireball killing the whole crew.

Putin is losing. He needs to take his inferior toys and go home.

You mean to tell me that the money and weapons that Biden is sending (with your tax dollars, mind you) to one of the most corrupt countries in the world, where he has had shady business interests for the last few decades, and which is not being tracked in any way, is being used for nefarious purposes! I don't believe you sir. If this were the case, then surely Biden's government would have done something to prolong the war, like prevent Zelenskyy from accepting a peace deal last year.

    Re: Russia

Polish soldiers, or really mercenaries, as part of a unit called the Polish Volunteer Corps (PVC), have entered Belgorod province. First a Russian propaganda TV reporter said it was not true, the PVC is not in Belgorod or anywhere in Russia because the Border Guard has closed the border. So, the PVC made it point to shoot video of their commander and some officers standing in front of post office of a town in that region. The commander is handed a sign, with the town's name, and he holds it up and laughs, saying, "Right, we are not here." Later that Polish commander says, "The [clowns] are worried about Donbas when they won't have a Russia to come home to."

I think that was the translation of what he called them, "clowns."

Two Ukan-piloted F-16s made an appearance along the front. They fired air-to-ground missiles at a Russian target then quickly peeled away. Reported that about a dozen Ukranian pilots have been trained in the F-16, with scores more still in training.

    It's starting to heat up.

    Re: Russia

The Russian Volunteer Corps (RVC) has captured and his holding a good portion of Belgorod, including the main hospital. The RVC commander appears in a video standing next to two wounded Russian soldiers and he offers to turn them over to the governor of Belgorod. The partisans say they will only agree to meet with local officials and not any of Putin's stooges.

There are numerous reports(how true they all are I can't say) of the partisans capturing at least 8-10 towns and villages and now it is said they hold a huge chunk of the province and have gained a foothold in two neighboring provinces. If only half of this is true than Putin is cooked. The Russians, those loyal to Putin, appear helpless to secure their own territory. How can they expect to sustain and win a war in Ukraine?

    Re: Russia

Street fighting in the city of Shebekino, Belgorod Province. This is a key road junction and a staging area for the Russian army in Ukraine. The partisans (the good guys) are engaged in house-to-house combat with a Russian unit (not identified, but at least company strength, 100+ soldiers). Video shot by two of the partisans sitting in a parked car on a residential street. It's kind of comical. These two RVC soldiers are scouts who ducked into the car when they saw the Russians coming toward them. They are videoing and commenting on the movement of the Russians and of course communicating this back to their commander. One time they laughed when a Russian soldier tripped, his helmet fell off, and the poor fellow scrambled to retrieve it and then ducked for cover next to a wall.

There is a separate video I just saw, from the front in Ukraine, of a Russian soldier with a shoulder launch rocket, like an RPG. He is hiding in a grove of trees, bullets plunking into the trees all around him. He gets up the coverage to quickly stand up and fire the rocket only it slams into a tree about 10 feet in front of him, exploding on impact and showering him with bark, wood, and shrapnel, not to mention the shock of the explosion. Obviously, he meant to miss that tree and send the rocket down range, but in his haste, well, he didn't. He was wounded but appeared he would survive the close call. The Russians are a bunch of bozos.

    Re: Russia

Ukrans are using WWI vintage Maxim heavy machineguns, about 20 in place along the frontline in Donbas. These guns are mounted on wheels, meant to be "mobile," but they are heavy, the wheels are small and so not very easy to maneuver with. So, instead, the Ukrans have placed them in "pillboxes" on their defensive line. Asked why they are using 120 year-old weapons, a Ukran officer replied, because they work! They are simple to maintain and repair, they are extremely reliable, tend not to jam (uses belt ammo). They are durable, can get wet and muddy and still function.

The Maxim machinegun was invented in Britain by Hiram S. Maxim in 1884. It was the main automatic heavy weapon used by the Brits through WWII, seeing improvements along the way. Vickers Co. was a rival to Maxim, also building machineguns and other weapons for Britain and her allies. In 1897 the rivalry ended when the two companies merged into one. They continued to manufacture automatic weapons under both brand names of "Maxim" and "Vickers."
