US 1 Panama 1 US loses on PKs 5-4
    Mexico 3 Jamaica 0

Not surprised by US result, am surprised by Mexico's easy win.

Just the beginning of the summer of disappointment. USWNT will not win a third straight World Cup. Not that that is necessarily a big surprise or a disappointment per se. It is unrealistic to think the US, anyone, can threepeat at the World Cup.

Re: Back to the important stuff....

USWNT opens defense of their World Cup title (two-time defending champ) vs. Vietnam tonight. On paper this one shouldn't be a problem. US should prevail something like 5-0. The big test in pool play is next vs. The Netherlands, a rematch of the 2019 final, a 2-0 US win. Both teams are brand new with only a handful of players who played in that 2019 final. Then the US closes pool play vs. Portugal, which should be another win (3 points) for the US and a ticket to the knockout stage.

We are young, very young. The anticipated starting lineup tonight has 7 of the 11 making their very first appearance in a World Cup. The four veterans slated to start are Horan, Morgan, Dunn, and Naeher. There are nine veterans on the 23-player roster. Rapinoe, Lavelle, and Ertz should see action but will probably be 60th minute subs, or even 70th minute depending on the situation in the game. The US's all-time record in pool play is 21-3-0 with all three draws coming against Sweden. I think we might see a 4th draw this year, vs. the Dutch.

    US 3 Vietnam 0

Commanding performance against an upstart side playing a bunker defense. Vietnam took zero shots and only crossed midfield on an attack a handful of times, and their attackers were always outnumbered by US defenders and had no chance. The US looked stale in the attacking 1/3 and should have scored several more goals. Morgan missed a PK on a weak effort.

US vs. The Netherlands/Holland/the Dutch on Wednesday will be a test.

For all you Rapinoe haters, here's a partial list of companies you need to boycott: Apple, Google, Nike, and more to come, I'm sure. Just like Bud Light got slammed for its paid spokesperson, well...

Must really gripe some of you that Rapinoe is raking in seven figures from these companies.

There are also YouTubers openly rooting against the USWNT because of Rapinoe and what some mistakenly think is an anti-American sentiment on the team in general. So, some were supporting Vietnam...a very commie bastard nation/team. Shows where they stand geopolitically. Hate an American team...love the commies!

I do NOT agree with most of Rapinoe's political views. Maybe, NONE of them! I won't vote for her should she run for some political office. But right now, she is only a soccer player wearing the uniform of the USA.

Well, they are going to lose one game for sure, I think, because I don't see this team winning a third straight World Cup. And, if they don't win the group then they will draw Sweden in the Round of 16 and it'll be adios. If not Sweden then whoever they play in the quarterfinals. Then all the haters can go, Yippee! and return to their own mundane lives...

Rapinoe is living rent-free in a lot of people's heads!

Not mine. Never watched a women’s soccer match. If she wasn’t an attention whore, I wouldn’t even know who she was.

She's not living rent-free in your mind? Yet, you make two posts regarding her...

Well, Rapinoe played 20 mins vs. Vietnam and 0 mins vs. the Netherlands and might not see the field vs. Portugal. She is 38 yrs old and retiring. She is NOT an important component of the 2023 team. She is, however, one of the very best to ever play the game.

This play captures the ability of Rapinoe perfectly. Known as the Wambach goal, but Rapinoe's pinpoint pass set it up.

As a soccer "guru" this is what I see in Rapinoe...not her crazy politics.

Huge game tonight, or really tomorrow morning, 2AM our time. Have little to no expectations. Portugal is in their first ever World Cup Final and have looked as good as the US, and even better in some aspects. Our youngsters while athletic and talented have not handled this big stage very well so far. But then Portugal is also staring at a huge opportunity, and they could implode with stage fright and choke city. It's easy to say this, harder to do, but the US just needs to relax and play; not worry about the pressure of this being a must-game result at the frickin' World Cup.

US still solid favorites at -410. Not as easy as a ride as Netherlands at -12500. Why even bother at that line. US still favored to win the World Cup. Will be interesting to see the results of the match tomorrow morning.

Re: Back to the important stuff....

    US 0 Portugal 0

Portugal was (is) the better team and while they did not dominate, they did enjoy the run of play. Portugal won the possession battle 55-45%. Some folks poo-pooh the importance of possession, but it is the critical stat in these "matches that matter." This is the World Cup where every team is scratching and clawing for any advantage.

This is the worst USWNT in history, and after Sweden hammers them in the Round of 16, probably something like 4-0, this bunch will limp home disgraced. These youngsters represent this latest generation, one of entitlement. This team is in the worst physical shape in USWNT history. They are pampered, spoiled brats. All the hype about these newbies. They are nothing but a flash in the pan, no substance. That said, our veterans also disappointed. Morgan has done nothing this whole tournament, nothing but kill attacks by losing the ball or taking a shot way off target. Lavelle, out for the next round on yellows, has not been herself, but she is just off a long injury layoff. Horan and Ertz have played okay, and Dunn has not cost us a match, but she has looked shaky.

This USWNT is not bad, they are just mediocre. Like the men's team they have an inferior midfield. In 2019 we had Heath, Lavelle, Lloyd, Rapinoe dominating the midfield, winning time of possession, and controlling the match. This team has a weak midfield. Now, have to mention the injuries which have had a devastating effect on this side, absent are Swanson, Heath, Press and most importantly Sauerbrunn.

Vlatko sucks as coach. For now, this team needs to find a spark. No, they need to get angry.

Carli called it out. The team used to be about winning and dominating soccer. Now the team is just about social justice, branding, and wokeism. The leftist celebrities were tiktok dancing before the game and celebrating "limping" into the knockout rounds afterward. Most of these players couldn't even make the roster of teams in the past. Sullivan shouldn't be there much less starting at the 6. The midfield is a disgrace. Rapinoe was only included on the roster because of her "activism". Her talent is gone. Morgan is running on fumes. Lavelle is 50% at best. Ertz is out of position. The coach is clueless.

Sweden will bounce them out of the tournament and hopefully someone in the USSF gets a wakeup call instead of doubling down on more progressive wokeism. However, I highly doubt it. I think we are in for a rough few years with the WNT. Olympics next year will be painful as well.
