Most likely, the students who starting adding “baby” are the same type who would vote to take away the Techster moniker or vote down a minuscule student activity fee.
New students? This has been going on for decades now. I know people think that Alma Mater is a sacred song and singing the word "baby" is defiling it, but how many of you or students know the lyrics and sing the lyrics? I would bet less than 5% of fans know it or sing it at all.
Singing "baby" is one of the true natural traditions our students have created and maintained. It is the one part of the song that the majority of students staying for the alma mater participate in. I don't see the Alma Mater as some sacred song that must be purified of any deviations. It was written by one man; this is a tradition created and maintained by our students. We need more traditions like that.
Adding "baby" is just plain silly. Who is this "baby," what does it refer to? Whoever started it had to have been in a drunken stupor. It had to have started after I graduated in 1980 because we did not say it. I just ignore it now. But, I don't attend very many games in person now, so I really don't care anyway.
