I'd love to know what our University is doing as far as recruiting students. When my son graduated, he got tons of mail from just about every school in the state, but barely anything from Tech despite it being his top choice. He was going into engineering and deciding between ULL and Tech. He still ended up here, but he graduated 2nd in his class and his GPA and ACT that would have gotten him a free ride at ULL only got him free tuition at Tech. He still had to take out loans to pay for room and board to attend Tech. My daughter graduates this year, she has gotten more mail from the University of Chicago and USM than Tech. My wife, son and I are all Tech grads and my kids grew up going to Tech events, so they know who and where we are. Seems like legacy students should be a major focus of our recruiting efforts.
That’s the problem. All legacy students are considered a lock by those in control. They don’t think they should have to recruit them at all.
The Fed is the only reason that tuition is as high as it is. If they didn’t keep raising the ceiling, tuition would have to stabilize. Imagine graduating with a four year degree in Ag Business or Art Appreciation and owing 60k when you walk across the stage. Absolutely insane.
My daughter graduated this spring from Plano Sr High with a 4.3 gpa.
Going to Collin College in Plano for her first two years. Tuition cost? Less than a thousand bucks for a full load!!!
Books are very cheap due to digital and rental versions and some are free.
This is an extremely good college and best bang for college buck. In Texas, community colleges are the best choice for the first two years.
btw, she is more than happy to stay at home and have many friends doing the same thing.

There is probably zero optimism at anything related to Tech right now.
Football is hoping to barely crack .500 and make a meaningless Bowl game.
Basketball is hoping for a .500 season.
Baseball HC still has huge pitching concerns and a liability pitching coach that he refuses to address.
Softball lost its best player.
New president will most likely be a yes woman.
Our online program is basically nonexistent.
We’ve made zero effort to increase enrollment and yet actively employ professors who spend their time talking bad about their university.
Well, at least the value of my Tech diploma is now totally irrelevant to me. I am not in the job market; I am completely retired having no reason to shop my resume'. Of course, the same is true for all my framed parchments, diplomas and certificates from various universities. Tis a shame though that Guice has destroyed Tech.
I don't know if it's the Louisiana community college here in Monroe's fault or Tech's, or neither, but seamless is not exactly the word for an associate degree in early childhood to go into Tech's College of Education. there are ways (thank youDr. Guice and Stacy Gilbert) to complete that showing my stepdaughter the way.

I hate to say it, but for most people degrees are utilitarian. They are merely the paper that certifies you have a certain training.
Take Nursing for instance…
Two years at community college followed by a bridge to a 4-year degree through NSU online then work will completing your Nurse Practitioner degree online and you have a six figure job in a growing field with your loans paid off completely in two-four years by a rural hospital/clinic.
The institution name on the degree doesn’t matter much anymore.
I totally agree with the earlier post! When I was in high school and preparing to go to Tech so many good things were going on at that time on campus! The TAC was built my sophomore year in HS, as well as the intramural complex and the natatorium! Out Men’s basketball team had reached the sweet 16, Lady Techsters had won a NC and we blew away MS Valley St i. The football playoffs and Coach Gravy Patterson always had a competitive baseball team! Our engineering department was one of the best in America. Those were all topics that made the news and affected people like me! Nowadays I hear crickets coming from La Tech in attempts to draw new incoming students. I don’t understand the administration and lackeys that work for them! Give young people a reason to get excited about La Tech again! Maybe start with putting a boat load of $$ into our football team with a great coach that can recruit great players so that we can get back to winning football again! Nothing promotes a school better than athletics!!! Sorry for the long rant! Had to get it off my chest!!!!!!!
This.
The LAST thing that traditional 4 year universities have to offer is the EXPERIENCE.
Greek life, Campus life, Tonk, Concerts, Athletics, Clubs. This is where Tech did excel and could excel, but has done everything they could to diminish the campus experience over the past decade.
Our men’s basketball team used to pack them in. Now we can’t get them to come for giveaways.
We’ve abandoned the idea of creating an identity for our school and just made it as generic as ULM down the road.
