    A.L. Williams Champions Plaza unveiling

Talk about star power! In one place. At a rescheduled event from earlier this month.
    A great Tech event.
What a night of lumanaries in Ruston on Wednesday.
Louisiana Tech introduced its A.L.Williams Champions plaza Wednesday nite at the north end of Joe Aillet Stadium.
Unveiled were six @hanlonsculpture statues of (from left) Terry Bradshaw, Willie Rolf, Teresa Weatherspoon, Karl Malone, Kim Mulkey, and late Fred Dean, six athletes who have put Louisiana Tech on the natioinal sports map, were honored with a Q&A session at the Thomas Assembly Center prior to the plaza ribbon-cutting.
The unveiling of their six likenesses created by Brian Hanlon Sculpture Studio, Island Heights, NJ. is in a new plaza honoring former Tech coach A.L. Williams. The plaza was made possible by former Tech footballer Chris Richardson.

Looks great and a good addition to the stadium. Crazy how much the stadium has changed in a decade. The new north endzone construction will finally also connect both sides of the stadium on gameday. Now we just need to brick the concrete walls on the sideline and in the stands.

So glad to see this. Huge thank you to Chris Richardson.

If there is a finer man than Coach A.L. Williams who exemplifies what Tech is all about, I don't know who that may be. So glad to know him.

This is a huge sports moment in north Louisiana. You got NBA, NFL, WNBA, and top nccawbb there.

Who is next in this field of Tech greats?

Or, ya know, it could just be because he wasn’t big in the NFL. Compared to Bradshaw, Roaf, and Dean?

Tech has been blessed with a whole stable of great QBs through the years; I am not saying Matt Dunigan is the best. He was definitely one of the best, and my personal favorite. On my all-time Tech all-star team, he is my #1 starting QB. If I could coach this Dream Team of very talented players, I would enjoy coaching a QB like Dunigan. He is my kind of QB.

Now there’s a great Tech type of thought. Let’s limit ourselves by league representation. Hall of Fames have preferred classifications. Tech had better count all the hall of famers they’ve got because the chances of having any more… ever… are getting increasingly unlikely. We’ve already seen it that as soon as one of our athletes shows any signs of big league capability they’re gone as soon as the next portal opens.

    Excellent points.

Hinton and Dunigan both are CFL Hall of Famers.

In fact, Dunigan is considered the "Terry Bradshaw of the CFL TV pre-game show".

Who are other top-of-their-league Hall of Famers?

Dunigan absolutely was a Bulldog. He’d run stadium stairs when everyone else had called it a day. I still wish he was a part of Tech football and have said so in several other posts. I’d go so far as to say that he’d probably call a better game this week than what Cumbie is going to. I wonder, do you suppose Dunigan is feeling overlooked by Tech and isn’t particularly interested in anything Tech because the school hasn’t honored him like they should have in their selective recognition ways. Come on Tech smarten up.

I had the privilege to visit with Matt Dunigan and Dave Nitz at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame induction, during the open house event. Dunigan is a character, very humble, and spoke openly about his shortcomings as a player, but did so with a wry smile. Yes, he was (is) a true Bulldog.

Exactly. I told my wife whenever they unveiled the statues that they wouldn’t have to worry much about future expansion. The portal and NIL has turned the G5 into a big farm league for the P5. It honestly makes recruiting that much easier for them and that much more difficult for schools like us.
