Interesting...You do realize that Tech is one of the only FBS schools that doesn't operate partially from a fairly large student fee right?
Did you receive TOPS when at Tech? If not, I understand your concern. With TOPS, "college" is not expensive. It's almost free. Housing, food, and fuel (If commuting) is the big expense. Those items are under your control.
The last student fee voted down was one of the main things that will eventually return our program to the FCS level.
My son is on track to receive TOPS Honors and one of the Tech Merit Based Scholarships (anywhere from $3500-9500/year based on ACT). We will still need to pay $10-15,000/year with both of those.
Current expected cost for Tech is ~$21,600/year: Tuition & Fees $12,165, Room & Board: $9500
TOPS covers $5553/year for Tech; Honors an additional $800/y; Performance $400/y.
So out of pocket Tuition with TOPS Honors is ~ $5800.
Some of you may remember him, but I feel Tech misses the late Wiley Hilburn bigtime.
How'd F. Jay Taylor do so well? He had Wiley in the background enhancing Tech's relationships with all local beat media, from Monroe to Shreport.
He kept Tech faculty and staff in check when it came to local public relations because Wiley had a vested interest in all the media.
If a staff had a PR problem, they contacted Wiley.
If local media had a Tech problem, they contacted Wiley.
The system worked quite well as I was fortunate to observe as both a student editor and a local media member.
The new president, a journalism undergraduate, would do well to have such a person handy. Someone who can act as a buffer.
I'd expect Wiley would have the coach issue a personal and a public apology . . . this morning at the latest and the 24-hour news cycle would move on.
But NO! Personal feelings are more important than that of the institution.
Personal relationships. Oh how they're missed in today's sports world.

Yes, I received TOPS as an undergraduate. I was a cheap ass in my younger days—not sure much has changed. But tuition at Tech is also not $789/qtr. for 12 hours like it was in the late 90s.
Maybe all of those athletic fees that passed all those times were what propped our program up all along. 😏
Yep. Luckily (I guess) my son has never looked anywhere else. We were hoping for National Merit Finalist, but we think he came up just short (Tech offers a FULL Ride for National Merit finalists / He'd actually get paid to go to Tech).
When my wife went to Tech on TOPS, it covered almost everything. She didn't have to take out any loans until her senior year. I graduated HS a couple of years before TOPS started, so I had a whopping $15,000, in debt when I graduated.
Ah to have it so nice.. My son went to A&M his Jr and Sr year. Although he could have gone right out of HS, he chose to go to the local community college instead and get his Associates of Science with the plan to move onto A&M after that. We bankrolled his community college with a tuition cost of approx $1100/ year (550 a semester). However at A&M a year was about $15-18K with room and board. He did get some grants and scholarships but he still left with 20K in student loans and we had 20K in parent loans. His Masters at U of H, he had a full ride and was paid by NASA to do his thesis.
