I thought Cumbie was the HC/OC/QB coach?
As you know the way it works is this...
Wood has been getting TONS of calls demanding that Cumbie be cut loose. (Nobody calling Guice for two very obvious reasons)
Wood too weak to make an easy call when he knows he'd have to actually work to gather the buyout.
Wood demands that Cumbie make some big changes in his staff.
Next year will be re-run of the re-run and it's doubtful that Wood will make an easy call then.
$2 million just to fire someone is not an easy call to make, no matter how easy LSU or other schools may make it look.
Maybe someone should figure out how much keeping him costs Tech.
$2 million is a short-term problem, but another year of this crap will lengthen the already heavily damaged financial (lower ticket sales, donations, merchandise) and reputation (recruiting, marketing, rampant apathy) outlook. It will take at least several years to surface out of this abyss.
The better question is can Tech afford to keep him? The same question should be asked about Wood.
[QUOTE=..............Then why did we hire him for that much? Someone was really that confident that we'd not have any regrets for 5 years?[/QUOTE]
Whomever hired him with that kind of contract is a dumbarse.
And, a leopard never changes its spots.
$2M is not too much for those who are already invested in the program. I always shake my head when I hear or read someone say the only way it can be done is to get JD to write a check. It's the AD's job to gather the needed funds from 50 people, 100 people, or however many he needs to make this go away.
Our AD is as much of a problem right now as Cumbie and our program is swirling down the toilet. I doubt our new president will be any better than the last two we've had when it comes to building our program, but we are to the point now that it's embarrassing to be a Tech fan. We've got many issues that need to be addressed in the AD's office, but the most pressing is Cumbie. Demanding he fire assistants is a cowardly way to address this program killing problem.
I wonder if, and hope, if Wood is making some calls to find another job, probably back in Florida. Athletics as a whole have declined under his direction. But he can add “Power washed the stadium” to his resume.
I don't think he'll ever leave on his own. Nobody wants to hire a failed a.d. whose only a.d. job he kills a program.
If the last guy could get hired away, everyone has got a shot.
Now that Cumbie is firing his assistants in an attempt to get the spotlight off himself it’s finally feeling like that day when you can put the putrid smelling trash can on the street for the city services to pick up and hall off. That’s what Cumbie’s 2nd year has felt like. Three straight 3-9 years is absolute garbage.
