Some major colleges overlooked Moats too. His recruiting tape was all I needed to see and know that we had gotten a jewel.

These idiot coaches in the NFL and colleges put too much stock in seeing big numbers from a player then they write it off to "they played at a small school" or "they didn't play great competition". Tim Rattay and Ryan Moats come to mind. They both fell victim to of these mindsets of coaches.

Champion will be the same way. The excuse used for him was "he played 8 man ball" and "he didn't start his junior year, so he must not be good."

Rattay was the same. he didnt play QB til his Senior year in HS because he played Safety. You NEVER know. We all know the story of the skinny OL from Arkansas that came to Tech in the late 80's when NO ONE else wanted him...Future Hall of Famer Willie Roaf

Talent is not just physical either. It is mental, it is attitude and it is heart. It's being coachable, too.

Funny thing about Rattay was his dad was the coach and he still couldn't get on the field at QB! His Junior year at Mesa High they had a Senior QB that was a stud running the option. But the next year his dad took the head job at Phoenix Christian and Tim transferred there and blew up all the AZ state passing records.

I just hope we play the best QB that will help us win. If Rawls is as good as I've heard, he'll make conroy look like a genius. Just like Rattay made Bicknell look good in 99.

I disagree DonW...as I said in a previous post, Brett Farve couldn't make Conroy look good. You can't throw 2 yard screens every play and expect your QB to show his talent. If Conroy is still here next year, we'll be posting the same complaints w/ the same results on field.

I heard Rattay would change the plays that Bicknell called into the game? I wonder how true that is.

Judging from what I 've seen the last few years it has to be true.

Speaking of that did any of you see the BSU-FSU preview last night at halftime of the TCU game? They said that Dinwiddie gets the game plan run by him each week and can veto plays and take them out of the game plan at anytime throughout the week or audible out during the game. They also said he has major input on developing the gameplan from the get go. The coaches try to come up with ten new plays each week and Dinwiddie can accept them or reject them as he see's fit.

That's nice but he is a senior this year, you think Boise does that to an untested QB next year, not a good philosophy on how to run the offense, I guaruntee that Steve Spurrier never did that crap at Florida even with his smartest QB in Danny Weurfull or however you spell it.

So then was it Rattay or Bicknell who tried running 4 consecutive times at the goal line against A&M?

Bossdawg , obviously you would only do that when you have a SR. QB like a Rattay or Dinwiddie. And as for it not being a good idea I would let BSU's offense the last few years speak for itself as for whether its a good idea or not. I would take their coaches and their philosophy over ours in a heartbeat. (and so would you  )

    DD,

No, I don't think Tim called those running plays against A&M in S-port. I think Rattay changed pass plays in the huddle and often times at the LOS. But I doubt he changed flat out, straight running plays into pass plays on the goal line. (maybe he should have) Just my opinion.

Plus the offense seems to have been "dumbed down" a lot the last few years and I think Rattay had more options out of each formation and more formations in general(he could use a TE). I think it would have been much easier to change the routes each WR was running back then. Basically you have Crowtons plays and Tim's Brains Vs. JB3's tremendous lack of creativity , and knowledge of offense and an untrained, uncoached Luke McCown. I'm not exactly sure where Conroy fits in to all of this. Remember also that when we started running this offense it was a little bit ahead of its time and most DC's have adjusted to it. Conroy and Bick simply havent stayed ahead of the times and opposing DC's. In fact they have fallen way behind. Most of us agree JB3 is not a good coach but I think that is especially true with this style of offense.
