That was a nasty nasty game. I'm pretty worried about this year
I'll take the win, but "rough" doesn't even begin to describe the season if we don't improve in all aspects of the game.
I think game ball should go to Fields.
Let’s keep those “woke” halments!
Crumble’s coaching is as good as ever. His play calling seems absentminded and the execution looks unpracticed. 3-9 seems possible but we’ll have to get better.
More plays from under center. More throws to the TE. Run up the middle instead of trying to get to the edge. We can’t even outrun Nicholls. How are we going to beat NC State to the edge?
The video board was definitely improved but I still thought there were some missed replays. Early on there was a terrible echo or maybe a second speaker that was lagging in timing but it was resolved quickly enough.
My Thoughts on tonight's game:
Summarization: We are not good.
Positives from tonight's game:
1. Punting and Kicking were good.
2. Other than some popping in Q1, the sound and new scoreboard was good.
3. Whomever is running sound did not play at same time BOP was playing as in past.
4. Defense manned up when they needed to.
4. It rained. We can use the rain.
Negatives:
1. O-Line blocking was bad
2. Punt returns were bad
3. We do not have speed at running back to execute sweeps. Tried it multiple times tonight with no success.
4. Turnovers
This may have been the only game I attend this season. I do not have season tickets, and don't have plans to attend anymore right now but that could change.
Perhaps it's just my perception of time during games but certainly seems as if we're just generally slow. Seems like it takes months between snap and handoff
A win is a win, so I'll take it. The new helmet design is meh with absolutely no "Pop" (might I say boring). Speaking of boring, all the games I have watched with Cumbie as coach have been boring. The game was close enough that I should have been energized. Instead, I kept hoping the game would come to an end. Several times I found myself checking other scores and my Fantasy baseball scores on my phone. It's going to be a long season. My wife asked me if I wanted to go see a game in person this season. I told her I'd get back with her in a few weeks after I see how the team is playing this year. After game 1, I don't think it would be worth the time and expense to go to a game. But, I'm not saying no just yet!!!
Well, maybe we'll win at least one against FIU, Kennesaw State, or UTEP. According to the TV announcers, there are 30 transfers on the team this year. Maybe the team just hasn't had time to gel yet. I am hoping things get better, that is for sure. I think we may have a few playmakers - time will tell.
My thoughts,
- Same Cumbie football, nothing new.
- Defense did well against Nicholls. Can they defend against a mediocre FBS team?
- Rain make teams look very sloppy.
- QB2 Baker managed enough for a win. I'm not sure how much of the playbook he knows. He was shaky at times miscalculating his throws, some bad decisions, and few poor releases. I'd take it that he had some jitters and the rain didn't make it any better for him. Overall, good job finishing the game.
- Punting was good
- Punt returning wasn't good. Muff punts.
- Cumbie gets a C- against a FCS team. He won, but in a very ugly fashion.
