    Conundrum

Do you let Sonny go at the end of the year and pay the $1 Million buyout given the turbulent financial place the athletic department is in? or Do you let him coach 1 more year and prevent having to pay the buyout, but risk another losing season, bad recruiting , etc..

What is the best decision for the long-term health of the football program/athletics department given the consequences of the decision regardless of which decision is made?

The AD/Pres are not at fault because they didn't hire him, but they have the unfortunate reality of making that decision.

    Decisions. Decisions.

The program may not survive another year like this. That will be 4 losing seasons in a row, probably with a single road win in all that time to show for it.

We recently signed an away game against Texas for $1.5 Million. That should cover it.

For Tech and Ruston Crumbie has to be relieved of his duties by at least the end of the season. Then deal with the future. If you let mess persist things will only get worse.

That money can't be used to cover the entire buyout - which is capped by the state

Most of his salary is supplemented by the Foundation - so private donations have to cover the vast majority of the buyout

    Can't co-mingle the monies

Any way - most of the Texas money will be used to cover expenses for volleyball, softball, track and wbb everyday expenses

Yep, that money is already spoken for; might as well say it is already spent.

Anyone we hire will be an improvement. See if there’s a homeless person who would do it for free room and board for a year.

3 wins? Ya mean this year? LOL! He MIGHT beat Kennesaw State, maybe, depends on how much KSU feels like playing that day. But the others left on the schedule, I don't see how.

Speaking of which, this Saturday vs. Jax State. They have reeled off something like 5 or 6 straight games with 300+ yards rushing. They just toasted Liberty's defense, scoring 31 points. As I have mentioned, our defense is playing fairly well. Interested to see how they do vs. Jax State's offense, especially their running attack. It would help if our anemic offense could actually possess the ball, get some first downs, thus aiding our defense. But, I don't expect much in the way of help from our horrific offense.

If forms hold (using a horseracing concept), then I expect Jax State to win 38-13, rushing for 350 yards and making us look as pathetic as we are. But, these are still 18-22 yr old kids, so who really knows? Best case for Coach Crummy will be an off-day by them, and our defense getting some breaks, maybe a few turnovers, resulting in a competitive final, something like Jax State 20 Tech 10.

I hate it for our players, and the few loyal fans still left, but the best thing that can happen to Tech Football is a smashing loss to Jax State, like 49-3, followed by more crushing losses in a 3-9 season. Surely, not even our pathetic, self-serving leadership could ignore that.

    Re: Conundrum

The damage is already done. With NIL and the transfer portal, college football has become the Haves vs the Have Nots (or the Haves AND the Have Nots and every now and then the Have Nots have to play the Haves to actually make some money.) We are one of the worst teams in the weakest conference in college football. Hell, the Pac 12 was a stronger conference when it was just the Pac 2. It is going to take a decade or more to recover from the Cumbie era unless we absolutely luck into The Next Hot ThingTM like a Gary Crowton or Sonny Dykes. And even then we'll only have them for a few years before a richer program comes calling. Fire him today, or fire him at the end of next year and save ourselves a million dollars but the damage to the program is done.
