Whatcha think?
If we can get some of that 2012 offencive magic again, I'm all for it. At this point, it couldn't hurt.
He hasn't stayed anywhere for any extended period of time. I wonder how Tech managed to snag him (maybe at this stage he welcomes a huge challenge, and Tech will certainly be one).
But, if he can bring a high powered, high scoring offense (even for a year or so) - I'm all in. And if the defense can continue to perform well, who knows, maybe 2025 will be a great year to be a Bulldog.
Awesome! the 2012 offense was stellar. We could score against anyone; no deficit was ever too big to overcome. Just ask aTm after they built a 27-0 lead and thought they had the game in the bag. Wrong!
This is a good hire. And now, if our defense doesn't go down the toilet, 2025 might be a good year. Go Dawgs!
Got to have some offensive weapons and good OL.
We had some names in 2012 like Stephen Warner, Jordan Mills, Dixon, Cameron, Patton, Myles White, Hunter Lee, Ray Holley. The list keeps going.
I presume our previous OC is gone? I've not read anything about that. Will Cumbie leave Franklin alone???
Both CO-OCs are still listed, but I'm sure that will change. Football Coaches - LA Tech Athletics
I wonder if Franklin uses tight ends now. And how committed he is to tempo anymore. His MTSU teams passed a lot I think, but I don't remember them being notably fast-paced (but I honestly don't remember much about them at all, other than Stockstill's son throwing for a lot of yards over his career). Interesting that he's most recently coached speed football (which seems to just be football with a weight limit, like playing at the Y back in the day).
No one likes to be demoted, and I don't know enough about the 2024 Co-OCs to know if retaining them as position coaches would be a good thing or not, but it's obvious there will have to be a change somewhere since there is a limit on how many coaches a team is allowed to have. I guess we'll see how it all shakes out.
Hopefully there will be good chemistry between Cumbie and Franklin.
Is Bullock the guy to make the offense go under Franklin? I think he deserves a shot. If it’s anything like our 2012 version, the QB has to make 5-10 yard throws to a spot based almost entirely on timing. Very few reads. Oline doesn’t have to block long on 75% of the throws.
Hell yeah! I kinda feel that Bullock won't be the QB. We recruited nicely (is that a Trump word?), so Franklin might want to develop his own QB. Bullock completed a ton of short passes and dump-offs, but very few bombs and mid-field passes. He seemed too flat-footed in the pocket as well. He may flourish, however, under Franklin.
The LA Tech QB room and WR's should be very excited about this coaching move. Nobody opens up an offense like Tony Franklin. In fact, I now expect LA Tech to receive a lot of interest from "transfer" WR's in the portal due to this.
One thing: Dawg80 is right when he says the Tech defense can't allow themselves to fall into the toilet in 2025. Nothing puts pressure on a defense like a Tony Franklin offense. Franklin's offenses score fast and they score often. That put's a lot of pressure on a defense which will undoubtedly spend A LOT more time on the field in 2025 than they did in 2024.
This hire should be a very positive program changing move for Tech.........at least for the next 12-24 months. Dawg Fan is right....Franklin won't stay in Ruston long, but he'll sure light things up while he's here.
Franklin maybe replace Cumby after next year ?
