FJ Taylor is the model when it comes to increasing support for athletics! He was very well connected to the state of Louisiana governor and legislature. When opportunity came he jumped hard for Tech. He knew how to get things done and always found ways to find $$ for capital projects. TAC, Intramural complex, and natatorium. And had the foresight for D1 football. He was a do-er! Not a reactionary person!
If "Private Equity" is making a run at college sports, then what hope do hundreds of colleges have doing it "the old way"? https://www.cnbc.com/2024/12/19/priv...ge-sports.html
There are greater, more invested minds on this board regarding Tech Athletics, but I would be fine with playing the regional traditional rivals with an SEC team mixed in every season. It would make game days more fun again. And we need more fun in the experience...I do enjoy the great memories from the FJ days!
We took our shot with the WAC and it made sense at the time. We competed very well with quality athletic programs. Things are radically different now and continuing to change. I now agree we should try to align ourselves with a stable, regional conference if the opportunity presents.

I'm in the minority, but I'm all in for the Sun Belt at this point. College football has become a money game, and we can't keep up. I give to the program, but contributions like mine don't amount to a piss hole in a snow bank these days. I'd like to at least have regional rivals to keep the program interesting. At this point though, I doubt they'd ever let us in.
Jech will inevitably screw up whatever chance or chances they get to improve things. Leadership and forward thinking matter and Jech keeps proving that they don’t have any.
